You obviously know nothing about radio or the ratings because you can't get an accurate rating on a station that split into two frequencies but has the same call letters and a show that's been on air for four months.
Wait a year and then pass judgment on the ratings.
So, I point out the facts and I know nothing about radio? Look, I'm the first on this board to say 'give someone a chance'. Much in the same way that people were piling on J.D. before he ever had his first show I was here saying "give it time". It is true that most shows require anywhere from 9-18 months to establish themselves--"washing the audience" as it is also known. All of that being said, Aunt Carlos has, thus far, demonstrated absolutely no growth as a talent or in terms of audience--yes, KTAR split into two stations, yes there are going to be some fluctuations between now and the next year, but many people in this business are watching KTAR's move to FM and most are already dubbing it a big mistake and likely a tremendous failure.
Look at it objectively for a moment: Dozens of radio markets have tried FM (hot) talk before and over-and-over again it has failed or at the very best been far below average performing. So, taking a heritage station that, up until about 5 years ago, was consistently the news/talk winner and moving it to FM was not only a gamble, but it was a gamble that has proven itself to not pay dividends in the past. Your defense is that it is but one ratings book (and really another book plus some trends), which you can fall back on right now... what will you say next book or the book after that when KTAR continues to fail?
I understand radio perfectly, apparently however you (and many others) do not; it is not about AM vs. FM vs HD vs whatever... it is about CONTENT--always has been, always will be. Individuals will always gravitate toward the stations that have the superior content. Just about anyone can clearly see that KTAR has had inferior content for years now... and so far, they haven't improved upon it aside from doing foolish gimmicks like moving to FM, bringing a host that has never garnered decent ratings in Ankarlo and putting a washed-up, 70 year-old host that cannot possibly relate to the target demographic on against shows that are ratings juggernauts. Please, offer a reasonable counter to what I said and I'll be willing to listen, but right now, proof is in the numbers and they're not good.
The Broadcast is great! It's about time that someone brings us the full story. If you're going to criticize his broadcast then I would like to hear you do it better.
That's definitely a straw-man argument, there is no way for me to just go on the air and "do it better". That said, I promise you if I were at KTAR I could get vastly superior numbers to Ankarlo--I'd offer up any amount of money to back this up, not that it would be hard to get higher than a 0.* (25-54).
