This is a post on Darrells Facebook acct that his wife manages.. "Darrell Ankarlo To answer everyone's questions...KTAR and Darrell sadly parted ways today. You have been awesome thank you for all your love and support!"
I guess that answers what is happening...

Wow, this is going to be a PR nightmare problem for KTAR. Why, I wonder, would KTAR not control the situation and stay ahead of this by announcing the separation on KTAR web and/or radio vs. having Ankarlo announce on Facebook page?? Not the brightest move by Bonneville.

Now, I think the separation was warranted and long overdue given some of the on-air issues (e.g.- inappropriate discussions/topics by Ankarlo), but it could and should have been handled differently. Just my opinion.

Sorry to hear that, never a big fan of his show, but I really feel for him and his situation, and give great props to KTAR for treating his situation in a classy way.

I'd listen to Jim Sharpe (or his mysterious alter ego), I hope they find someone that isn't a redneck, a nut, or a screamer, but sadly, that is what evidently sells in this market.

I agree with you Legend. If its true props to KTAR for standing by him for so long. He sounded so bad after the accident.

Aunt Carlos was a welcome relief from the toaster talkin' Pat McBland when he first started at KT'R. Opinionated, on topic and always gave 110% up against a 900lb talkradio elephant. A tip of the fez from the Buckeye Boyz to TMISU for standing by him during the past year. Nurse Jeff and I'm sure both parties wanted the very best...apparently it just didn't work out to everyone's wishes.

I haven't heard Ankarlo long enough to form an opinion on whether or not I truly liked him. I only heard his slot featuring a bunch of different folks. As far as Bruce St James, I remember the last time I heard him on 92.3 KTAR and I must say I admired the show. He definitely knows what he's talking about and has natural common sense. Now, as far as Ankarlo, it's a bit odd that I come here to see this topic today because it was just the other day, no more than a few days ago at the most, I began to wonder "is something going to happen with Ankarlo...?" Because I began to realize that even after my long break from radio, especially talk radio, I've left and come back and still after all this time, no Ankarlo! I don't understand why things that unfold always tend to be things I think / wonder about shortly before hand (whether or not I mention it) - strange.

Well, as far as the general public goes, do you really think anyone will be affected by this daytime change? It's been such a long time that I'm sure most people are immune to hearing different people during that time slot, and I have a feeling that it will be rather easy to "sneak" someone else in to fill it. I mean, even Conan's prime time shot is dwarfed by the amount of time this "KTAR transition" has been taking place! Anyway, those are just my thoughts for now.

Did they officially announce who is taking his place?

Jim Sharpe's in for Ankarlo right now..have they not acknowledged it?? I miss David Leibowitz from around the turn of the century (98-01)

I wonder, is it possible they havent decided yet? I hope they make a good choice. I am for the more colorful hosts, but I doubt that will be the direction.

At 10:16 in a toss to a stopset, the Sharpemeister mentioned
it was "Ankarlo mornings on KT'R-FM" or words to that effect.

Evidentally not a slip, as there was an "Ankarlo mornings" liner
played in the middle of the break, and a "back to..." at the end
of the stopset. Then a "Jim Sharpe filling in" live comment.

Aunt Carlos is still on the KT'R website as of this writing.

How long is the MasterBlogger going to sit on this?

According to KTAR a MAJOR  Announcement Regarding Ankarlo at 11:40 A.M. Today.

That announcement sounded really awkward and there was no mention of what programming was going to be in that time slot going forward.

What a bummer....I worked with Darrell back in the 80's in Hammond, Ind... he's a great guy...sorry to hear about the brain issue...but after 30 years in radio...it was bound to happen in one way or another.

I agree it was awkward because no one is used to radio companies actually talking to their audiences like adults. Kudos KTAR. It was a classy move.

I agree completely with Triple Fake Jerry - Ankarlo, at least during his Dallas days, was a hateful, bitter little man.

Radio got a little bit better today.
