Ankarlo still on KLIF live

Maybe I missed something here on the board, however Ankarlo was on live this morning using the (214) number. How long will this continue?

at least until Friday. he's broadcasting from Phoenix at his new station. I'm sure he starts there on Monday. I think Jon-David got a raw deal when Darrell took over at 7am. I was hoping the "technical difficulties" they were experiencing would have continued because J-D was doing well, then Darrell slammed him on-air.

I'm so glad he's leaving.

:p

\Okay I'm editting this because I don't know how to delete it. I got confused between Greg Knap and Ankarlo. I thought that Ankarlo was the one on WBAP at night. Shows how much I listen.

I happen to have enjoyed listening to Ankarlo and have defended him on these boards, but his behavior since announcing he is leaving is boorish. It seems obvious in his touting of his newsletter, which he will send out AFTER his show on Friday, that he plans to blast the station that has employed him for 5 years. Darrell, why can't you just leave? You made what I assume is an adult decision and chose to get out of KLIF, apparently because you were not happy, or believe you could be happier elsewhere. As a faithful listener, I have no right or need to be filled in on all the gory details. Be a MAN, be a CHRISTIAN, Darrell, or I'm going to have to apologize to "I KICK". Darrell, if you are going to throw poop, I guess everyone else in this sandbox gets to reload. Just try not to get it in my hair!

I say good riddance to bad garbage....Bring on the new fella

I tried posting a comment earlier and it was either deleted or, this being my first post, I didn't enter it properly. Well, I'll try again.

Ankarlo's reputation goes back many years. He struggled for a long time at fringe Chicago suburban stations working in religious/Christian broadcasting. His ethics were first questioned when he chose his on-air name of Chris Stevens. There was a well known former WLS jock named Kris Stevens, and Ankarlo tried to capitalize on the WLS jock's name recognition. Ankarlo/Stevens worked for WYCA/Hammond, IN. It was primarily a brokered religious station with a couple hours of music in the afternoon. His ego was out of control then because he thought he was the "star" of the station (even though at the time the signal barely made it into Chicago). He later worked part-time at WCRM/ Dundee, IL. It was a Class A FM located in a far northwest Chicago suburb. He worked one night a week, was often late, and once again acted like the star of the station. He was eventually fired because of his work habits.

WCFL/Chicago, a former Top 40 powerhouse had fallen on tough times and was purchased by Scott Ginsberg. Ginsberg flipped it to a brokered religious station with two hours of music in the afternoon. After Jim Channell left that slot, Ankarlo/Stevens was hired for the role of PD (which meant nothing on a brokered time station) and afternoon host. The 50,000 watt AM blowtorch never sounded worse. Stevens mentioned his name at every opportunity and it was two hours of constant self promotion with soft Christian AC music mixed in. And yes, he again made himself greatly disliked by his co-workers. He was making little money (under $20,000 year), and the station was eventually sold because the revenue couldn't support the operation. The station was so bad it moved from its downtown Chicago studios to the transmitter site in Downers Grove, IL. You could hear all sorts of RF problems on-air. Funny, but also sad. Ankarlo then went to WNDZ-AM/Portage, IN, another fringe signal. Don't think he lasted there very long.

Ankarlo/Stevens claimed to be a youth minister at a Church back then, so who knows how they viewed him. I lost track of him for a long time until I heard he landed in Nashville doing a talk show under his real name. I guess he had some short term success there, but was a miserable failure at KTRS/St.Louis, and now KLIF. When I moved to Dallas and heard him on KLIF I couldn't believe he got another job. Nashville was his only ratings success (short term), but he keeps getting jobs. Kinda sad to others in radio (I haven't been in radio for many years).

I sent this info to Gordon Keith at The Ticket a while back, and when he read it on the air Ankarlo went nuts (you may have heard the audio - it was great). I haven't worked with the guy for twenty years, but he doesn't appear to have changed. He is such a creep that it prompted me to make my first post on the board. He has greatly disliked everwhere he worked. I post this bit of history because it confirms what others have said about Ankarlo/Stevens. He is a bit. If he could make money being a liberal democrat tomorrow he would do it. He has historically treated others very poorly despite the Christian banner he has waived. If you could have heard the "Chris Stevens" years in religious broadcasting you would know why he is the way he is now. A joke.

Thank you for putting this up accuracy, too bad the fools of phoenix have been snookered into taking this waste of human flesh for their own...
