Ann Curry Out At "Today"??

There are numerous reports this evening (June 20th) that Ann Curry wil be dumped from NBC's "Today Show", a little more than one year after she was promoted to co-hostess.

Perhaps the writing as on the wall when former co-hostess Mereduith Vieira and not Curry covered Quen Elizabeth II's 60th anniversary on the throne.

Is Vieira going to come back and reclaim her old job??

Ann Curry does a fine job, given what 'Today' has turned into.

Didn't Vieira (sp?) leave the show due to her husband's health? Did something change there (maybe not wanting to hear the answer)?

Everyone is seeming to blame 'chemistry' for Curry's departure and that she never was comfortable in the job.

I think though, it's that Today is over-segmented and over-promotionalized. A newswoman like her must just shake her head at only having a half-hour at most per day for hard news before the shift to the murder/kidnapping/trial of the day only true crime fans care about, actors segment, "The Professionals" (just tell me the news, I don't need it in talking head form from the worst cable personalities of 2004!), and then concerts and cooking and the like.

As much as I'm not a fan of GMA (like most everyone except Laura Spencer, hate how they follow the leader with Today at times), at least you can count on their schedule and they know how to zig and zag. Today at this point is a four-hour shillfest for later in the day and the "Wake Up With Al" postgame show with how they're making Stephanie Abrahms as his eventual successor.

With the pairing of Regis and Kathie Lee on Wednesday, is there a chance that Hoda Kotb will move back to the "hard news" division and Regis will join KLG permanently in the fourth hour. It was mentioned he is covering NBC's July 4th fireworks special, so there seems to be a new association between the peacock network and Philbin.

Doubtful. Regis has stated on numerous occasions that after all those decades, and at age 80, he grew tired of the daily grind. I think his current gig of various guest spots and cameos is exactly what he wants and needs to both stay relevant and popular with his fans - and reduce his workload. If he pops up once or twice a month, he stays connected to his audience, and can enjoy a luxurious semi retirement that I am sure he is enjoying.

That's what I remember too, that she left for personal reasons related to her husband and didn't want to do the AM routine.

I think Ann Curry is being used a scapegoat to an extent and she is a news person on a show like GMA that isn't enough news. It maybe valid that NBC wanted someone with a more dynamic personality or voice, and Robin Roberts at GMA was working for GMA, but Ann might not have been for Today.

TMZ reported today that Meridith Viera turned down NBC's offer and that Savannah Guthrie might be next in line.

Meredith will have a role on NBC's Olympic coverage in London. Her husband, journaist Richard Cohen, suffers from multiple sclerosis, and has had colon cancer twice. And Meredith still hosts the syndicated Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. She's got a lot on her plate.

Doubtful Deborah Norville would ever want to return. She's been hosting Inside Edition since 1995.

Note to Ann: Don't let the door hit you on your way out!

I think NBC is trying hard to catch up with GMA, with the way GMA has clearly dominating morning show talk now these days. Carrying a 4-hour morning news program is pretty brutal, but I rather settle for 2 hours, and the let NBC affiliates carry other shows, Like "Live with Kelly", et al-at 9am.

And if Ann leaves or get fired, I think Hoda will be sitting to the left of the screen, with Matt sitting to the right-Come Monday.

I think the way NBC treats its talent is terrible. David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, Norah O'Donnell, Ann Curry. The network deserves to be as low-rated as it is. Brandon Tartikoff would be ashamed.

I, too, would like to see the back half of Today canceled, but would want NBC to keep the time instead of giving it to the affiliates. Smaller stations would probably full a slot or two with infomercials, but NBC would (hopefully) put that time to better use.

I miss the days of game shows and network reruns of newer prime time sitcoms. I know that those days are gone forever, whether the third or fourth hours of Today are here or not.

Besides, doesn't the second half of the show perform respectably for the network?

Given the recent history at the network, the obvious choice for Ann Curry's successor would have to be. . .[wait for it]. . .Jay Leno.

He'll probably find some way to fit his overly massive ego and chin into the morning hours.

My dark horse is Michelle Beadle, whom they just brought in for "Access Hollywood" duties. Who wouldn't want to wake up to Beadle? Sure beats waking up to Ann Curry. :-X

Of all the names I've seen here, I'd go after Robin Meade if
I were NBC. I think she wears well in the morning (face it,
I don't see another Jane Pauley or Katie Couric out there).
Robin Roberts, I think, is ABC's trump card and her demeanor
would simply overwhelm Matt Lauer.

And to the person who suggested Deborah Norville, the writers
at "Saturday Night Live" would thank you from now on. But I
don't see her leaving "Inside Edition."

Seems like NBC has a pretty deep "bullpen." They promoted Curry after Veira left. Not sure who took Curry's place, Natalie Morales? She would make a great replacement, too, and she is the cutest of the women currently there! :-*

Meanwhile, the local NBC affiliate here is promoting a new (syndicated) talk show by Katie Couric. I won't be watching it, but it seems like a show like that would be a good replacement for a fourth hour of Today, should that time ever be turned back over to the affiliates. (Right now, channel 4 hasn't said when (at what time) they will be carrying it, only that it starts in September.)

I liked Ann and I liked the image she projected on the show. She seems like a nice person who seemed fair with her interviews. Plus, she did not seem as " full of herself" like Katie Couric did. (She was a pain to watch)......I wish Ann well, and I'm sure she will find another gig
