Ann Holt and Bob Mueller?

As I was sitting at my computer monitor watching channel 2 and their coverage of this snow weather system, I was wondering if those two news anchors are now the Dean (lack of a better word) of Nashville's newscasters. I know Ann Holt has been in Nashville since 77 or 78 now. I think those two have been here in Nashville as new anchors the longest.

I think you are right. I had the same thought recently. After the death of Dan Miller and Chris Clarks retirement, Bob and Ann are the longest lasinng anchors on Nashville tv and very underrated. Every now and then Channel 2 gets new management who decides to try someone else but it will eventually go back to Bob and Ann.

Nice people as well. But proof that length of time in a market doesn't guarantee biggest numbers. Nashville is still , according to the numbers, mostly a two station tv town.

I am surprised that people haven't gravitated to Channel Two after Dan and Chris. This town has always
supported the hometown team. Rory is a decent guy, but Chris is a hard act to follow. I guess Demetria has
staying power, which I wasn't sure was as strong as it is. Bob and Anne certainly are the most polished and
work well together.

Why are you surprised? Isn't channel 5 & 4 just as home town? I mean come on, Hope Hines? Ron Howes.
They probably haven't switched because 4 & 5 run circles around them in resources, investment, and coverage. No tv station is locally owned and even though channel 2's owners are in bankrupcy they didn't perform all that well when they had money.

There was a time years ago when channel 2 stole Jud Collins thinking as channel 4's first anchorman he'd make it happen. Didn't. Then they stole Teddy Bart, knowing his success on the noon show would bring name value....Didn't.
Maybe we'll live to see channel 2 be relevant, but all local tv stations seem to be quietly trying to
hold off bigger attractive from cable.

If people were supposed to support a hometeam they'd have been watching TN Mornings on channel 17. Maybe I"m missing something. Is Bob and Ann FROM Nashville or something?

Funny logic.Maybe channel 2 could market that "watch us because we're the local team!" They could have sports done by students from MTSU on an intern program.
If local was the reason to do stuff we'd grocery shop at H G Hill and Dollar General since Publix and Kroger are not really local but out of town.

Iirc, Ann Holt is originally from Henning, TN, the same hometown as "Roots" author Alex Haley. Channel 2 use to run an ad about 15 years or so ago with Ann Holt talking about her childhood and growing up in Henning, TN, just north of Memphis.

As far as Bob Mueller, I'm not sure where he is from originally.

Longest tenure...doesnt equate into BEST nor BEST RATINGS!
in the day & age...Nashville being #29 TV mkt in the nation...it doesnt matter where you were born...
just if you have viewers...
FOX 17 morning show consistantly gets HASH MARKS (doesnt show up in the ratings)
Young Broadcasting owns Channel 2...& ANN HOLT has been the HIGHEST PAID TV anchor in Nashville for years...
she shouldve retired years ago...her ratings (& all of CH 2 ratings or LACK thereof) & saved the company a BOATLOAD OF MONEY...but, that EGO is a powerful thang!

I'd say Channel 2's lack of news ratings can be caused by 2 things, 1) habit, people have been watching 4 and 5 for years and do not want to switch. And 2) the news team, the concept of vj's is horrid you either have a story with great video and awful narration or vice virsa. The weather chick who babbles on way much longer than necessary, and the "messed up" guy who is a Turko want to be. Bob and Ann are great anchors they are just out front of a weak team. And what's up with the x sports dude becoming the 3rd anchor? He was a much better sports guy than any they have had since he did sports.

Speaking only for myself here:

I came here from rural northwest Tennessee. The only Nashville station we had on the cable system there was Newschannel5. So when I moved here, I just continued watching NC5, and my loyalty has largely remained with them ever since. I watch channel 4 news at noon when I am home, but that is mainly because the other local channels don't have noon news at this time. (I will also say that I like channel 2's Nashville WX channel. It's great for those of us who do not have cable, and who are never going to subscribe to cable.)

Granted habit plays a lot into this. But if a tv or radio station, or grocery store or restaurant doesn't deliver the goods, people will break the habit in a NY minute.
Think how quickly we've moved to internet for info and cell phones for text messaged breaking news alerts.

Not meaning to sound argumentative. I just don't believe channel 4 & 5 kick butt because people are too lazy to change the dial.

I'm not sure to the extent paycheck information is accurate or known but it does seem puzzling to have someone state Anne has been the highest paid anchor in town for years. You kidding? If she's that strong a draw why isn't she on the 10pm newscast.
In a world of heavy hitters like Dan Miller and Chris Clark, other long time employees from Hope Hines to Demetria Kalademos who have had big numbers, I wonder how her paid would be that huge. And with the economy challenged and WKRN in bankruptcy, why would she still be on the payroll? Stations run on a principle of rewarding success and cutting the rest.

TV stations are forcing overpaid anchors to take retirement now more than ever while radio is going on the cheap with syndicated shows and voice tracking. I don't mean to sound like I'm bashing Anne Holt. But highest paid tv anchor? You gotta be kidding.

NOPE...not kidding!...the SALARY comparison was actually in a TENNESSEAN newspaper article a few years back when Chris Clark & Dan Miller were still battling it out.

Young Broadcasting is in bankruptcy...CHANNEL 2 has been FOR SALE for years...

My guesstimation as to why the low-rated ANN HOLT has a very high salary is that she had good agent representation when that SALARY AMOUNT was being negotiated in her contract.

WKRN was once a UNION shop...
Its would be very rare that an anchors or reporters(as far as i know) have AGENTs in this market.

WTVF & WSMV have been # 1 & #2 for years & still continue to BATTLE it out for top spot.
the other stations fight for the crumbs.
