Announcement - Fans of Toucher and Rich and O&A want their Free FM.

Hi, I am Joseph Mills and I am a former 99x listener. I like the Buzz a lot, but I need some entertainment during my day. I am apart of a larger group of disenfranchised listeners of Toucher, Jimmy, and Leslie. We are calling CBS Radio in NYC and demanding that DAVE-FM be flipped to Free FM with Opie and Anthony in the morning and Toucher & Rich in the afternoons. We feel that DAVE-FM is not a good radio station and that public will be truely served with great radio which is Free FM.

At the rate Dave is going, you may as well put down your phones. I actually like the type of music they play on Dave FM, but those numbers, ech. Something has to give eventually. Even if they do put on someone like Opie and Anthony on WZGC in mornings (which Joel Hollander said on the air today that they would make a push for), they could probably keep the music format for the other 21 hours which the station is on. Most talk shows on Free FM seem bad or just mediocre. The 24-hour hot talk format hasn't exactly been widely successful. Oh, and I've never heard Toucher or 99X in the morning, so I can't comment on their show.BTW, the domain name 93freefm.com is registered by CBS Radio. It's not in USE right now, but the fact that they registered it, maybe the thought has crossed their minds?

FREE-FM hasn't been successful because they put idiots like Diamond Dave on the air. Getting Opie and Anthony and Toucher and Rich should help post big numbers 18-34 and 25-54 males for 92.9FM.

Brilliant marketing strategy. This post should really get things rolling.

The probably is a chance that DAVE will flip to a FREE-Fm. Hope not. I actually like DAVE. Needs some tweeking, but I think the format has room to grow. And they have some real talent in Firfir, Mara, Eric, Margot, Sully, and Yvonne Monet. Hopefully CBS will stick with it, and let it grow.I can see putting O&A on in the morning maybe. But Toucher, and Rich? I never thought Toucher was that good to begin with. You could put Toucher, and Barnes together on a morning show, and see which of their ego's explodes first. Might be able to sell some ad time for that!

How about we wait until Toucher and Rich actually do something in Boston before we just give them a syndicated deal? What success have they had yet? They got the job. Getting a gig doesn't immediately qualify you to be broadcast nationwide. Yes, Toucher had a following here but if he was so adored why isnt he here anymore? I recall him saying last fall they had their worst ratings ever and then they went down from their. Little Howard Jr. has some proving to do.

Toucher and Rich and Crash will be great for a rock station targeted at 18-34 year olds because they're all juvenile. Why do you think CBS put them on one of their younger rock stations as opposed to one of their Free FM stations? Dave FM banks on the same 25-54 year olds as Free FM. T&R(& C) would be suicide. They're better off putting someone like Jimmy Baron in who at least appeals more to the Dave demo.

WYSP in Philadelphia has a mixed music/talk evening drive show that I couldn't imagine would hold much appeal for someone over 40. I wouldn't be surprised if their Boston station ends up the same.

The music has gotten a bit better on Dave lately, but they seriously need to do something about that morning show. It's incredibly dull. Ditto for 99x's morning show.

I've noticed on this board, most people do not care for O&A, but for those of us who do, it is would be great if they came to Dave-FM. I used to listen to them on shoutcast and have many bits saved on my computer from ftp sites. Anthony is the best impressionist I have ever heard. He can do about 20 impressions and most are awesome. If they came to Dave-FM they would easily beat TRG. It is unbelievable that the 10th largest radio market has absolutely no talent! :'(

I'd want them on Dave just for them to begin spilling info on The Regular Guys. Fun Fact - TRG were 2nd choice to Opie and Anthony, who were in Atlanta having their asses kissed by 96 Rock after the WBCN firing. But since O&A couldn't see themselves as yankees from Long Island living in the dirty south, they took the WNEW offer, which also offered 5 times the audience.

Even if Dave went FreeFM, I can't imagine they'd be able to use Toucher and Rich (even if they wanted to). There's no way that Cumulus let Toucher walk for free - there has to be a non-compete in there somewhere. (Jimmy Baron's situation was completely different, given that his contract actually expired - Toucher's had not.)

Don't local non-compete clauses only last about half a year?

With a situation like Toucher's, I don't know that it fits the average. Cumulus theoretically could have held on to him for the duration of his contract, so it wouldn't be out of reason to think that his local non-compete might last that long (however long that is). But even six months would keep him off the air in Atlanta until September.By comparison, Barnes was off the air in Atlanta for almost a year. (Regardless of the whole "I'm leaving to make movies" thing, I can't fathom that most of that time wasn't because of a non-compete.)I just can't imagine that Cumulus would let Toucher start shopping around nationally while still employed, and inadvertantly help him create a show that would directly compete against them later that year.-I personally wouldn't mind a FreeFM station, only because I'm quietly enjoying Carolla's show. But the ratings nationally for the format aren't good, and it's not just Roth. They're still trying to work out the personalities, and I can't imagine CBS going any further without narrowing that down. DaveFM is outperforming nearly all of the FreeFM stations, and flipping it for O&A's sake wouldn't make sense. And as long as they keep the AAA format, I can't imagine them bringing in O&A to replace All Access.Plus, keep in mind the whole "syndicated programming doesn't work in Atlanta" myth/belief/thing.A lot needs to happen before you see the scenario described in this thread. And I can't imagine it happening before spring of next year at the earliest. But, frankly, I don't see it happening at all.

Doesn't it? Look at WSB's schedule: Clark Howard, Neal Boortz, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, all syndicated, and that station's nothing but huge. Heck, Sean Hannity beats his local Atlanta competition The Kimmer by, what, 5:1?

Oh, I agree. (Though it's worth noting that both Howard and Boortz are local.) But it's one of those myths that the local radio folks placed on Atlanta years ago. For example, it was used to explain why Real Radio 105.3 didn't work, and why John Boy & Billy didn't work on 96 Rock.I don't know that the local folks still believe it, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Just as an update - CBS is warmly responding to the idea. We will see what happens in the next following weeks.
