Just before midnight, I heard an announcement on WUCS asking listeners who are having trouble hearing 97.9 -- especially in the Waterbury area -- to e-mail WUCS and tell the station about the interference they're encountering. I don't think I've ever heard a station make such an appeal to its listeners. What do you suppose Clear Channel is going to do with the data it receives. If a pirate or pirates are causing the problem, I suppose CC takes its complaint file to the FCC -- and then it's anyone's guess when the enforcement division will initiate the crackdown. But what if it's the Spanish language 97.9 in NYC that's bleeding into the WUCS signal? Broadcaster vs. broadcaster, trying to catch the NYC 97.9 running an improper pattern or unauthorized power?
Personally, I haven't been out toward Waterbury since 97.9 moved to Hartford, but I can tell you that New York starts to make WUCS unlistenable on 91 South not long after you enter North Haven. By the time you reach New Haven, the Spanish is all that's left.
