Annoying Chirp on KXNT

Any idea what's the deal with the annoying Chirp on KXNT?

"AM 840 KXNT VOICES YOU KNOW, NEWS YOU TRUST...(CHIRP)"

Must have started in the past week as I do not recall hearing it previously.

Is this at the end of the ID at the top of the hour? If so, it's probably the CBS News top of hour chime. I've noticed that, especially during automated hours, the end of that ID tends to overlap a bit with the start of the newscast.

The chime has been there for as long as I've been listening, although admittedly I do listen via the webstream from another country so I can't be sure that I'm hearing exactly the same thing as what you would hear over the air.

Samuel

Thank you Samuel for your response. The beeping/chirping noise is distinctly different than the top of the hour chime. I usually hear it intermittently, usually during a local promo in-between the show and national break.

Could the chirp be something on the national end KXNT usually covers up?

The chirp is actually the station's pet parakeet "Dittohead".

The chirp you are hearing is a tone that is used for Automation computer to switch over to the CBS news sat feed at the top of the hour.

I DX'd KXNT last night - I didn't hear any chirp besides the chime for CBS News.

Whatever it is its unprofessional. The pd , the chief engineer and the entire staff ( including sales ) should be fired.

Then every cbs radio station is unprofessional. Haven't you ever heard, "Thew Mornng News Round-up? There are all kinds of chirps for local breaks, etc.

The have been there for years, long before the sounds mommy and daddy made him.

PS If you are NOT a radio geek, you probably never noticed them. They are there for automation.

PS There is a chirp to activate the automation before every cbs hourly tone.

Geez, if he despises the chirp that much, I don't think we'd better
offer up any old airchecks of Mutual. ;) Bee-doop.

The chirp is almost as classic at CBS Radio as the bong. If you've
heard the 'check of the late Christopher Glenn's last Roundup when
he retired, the very last thing on it is:

"...I'm Christopher Glenn, CBS News! (chirp)"

Brings a tear to my eye each time I hear it.

Ha!

PS; I always thought that "the bong" cbs hourly tone is actually a (recorded, of course) "A" note plucked on a violin, is it not? If not, I'd be interested in what MAKES that sound there, as well as the hourly tone on WGN (used since at least the 1950's) which seems to be a number of audio tones in a chord.

Speaking of the old Mutual chirp there is a funny story about it involving Larry King.

Caller-Hi Larry..How are you doing?
Larry-What's Your Point?
Caller-Listen to this Larry..(a recording of the Mutual bee-doop)

This activated the automation for the affiliates and got everything out of synch all night long.

Thanks to everyone for the help with this. I knew there had to be a reason why it was only on the promos that aired right before the top and bottom of the hour!

maybe it is the PD on KXNT, I have been told he is a bit overbearing.
I also hear he gets rid of employees who have had personal issues that cause mental breakdowns.
I guess that's ok since Nevada is a right to work state.
