Annoying High-pitched whine on WEZN?

Pilot injection too high? The station sounds pretty decent, but there is a very high pitch (around 19k) whine that is distinctly noticeable on the carrier, and it can be heard over all programming. It's been like this for weeks. I don't know their engineer, but if he/she reads this board, it would be nice to have the problem corrected.
______________

I also noticed a few days ago, WEZN's stereo carrier was off for a pretty substantial amount of time.

Excellent. I'll give him a call tomorrow, maybe we can BS about how their used Omnia6 ended up at WMNR too... I heard it was basically used as a doorstop for a while, I wonder what WEZN replaced it with???

When I was at WMNR I had their 8100 sounding pretty sweet... that lasted about 2 years until someone finally hooked up the Aphex Dominator they had purchased and had in the rack (unused) for over a year... (and yes, I know who he is, and no, I'm not going to tell you).

I wouldn't say he did a bad job although I do NOT envy him dealing with that rat's nest behind the racks, and we are talking unsoldered splices insulated by Scotch tape) No, I wasn't the CE, but I learned audio processing, on my own, at that station.

The studios have since been moved, and I have not seen the new setup yet, except some glimpses from their website.

I just miss the old Harris Stereo 80 8-pot rotary boards they used to run. I sometimes wonder what became of them... they're probably buried underground at the landfill in pieces now. R.I.P.

I heard the whine yesterday all the way here on DX. I thought that it was interference.
______________

That high pitched hum has been on Star 99.9 WEZN for months now. It seems to be not as noticeable, but still there.

Could this be a poorly-maintained IBOC (In-Band On-Channel) digital signal??

No, it definatley sounds like a pilot signal.

I am sure the engineering staff is working on it and a resolution will come soon.

I used to hear the same thing on WBOT (Hot 97.7) in Boston for about a year. It drove me crazy to the point where I couldn't listen to the station anymore..nobody around me seemed to hear it. Haven't noticed it lately though.

EZN is running HD (??)

From what I can tell, WEZN is running HD. On Long Island, you can hear what sounds like those infamous digital sidebands on 99.7 and 100.1 in Suffolk County.

Amazing how stations let these things slip..I've posted about it before but WNYE 91.5 in New York, the station that belongs to the city's Department of Education, has had its own high-pitched whine going for close to a year now. I actually listen to one of the ethnic programs on there, but it's gotten to the point now where it's unlistenable.

Oh gee, just what we needed. Guess I can't get my usual DX catches on those frequencies anymore. At least there's no local stations on those frequencies in my area.

I heard it on them, and posted an audio clip of it a while back on the Boston board. I think it went away when they moved their transmitter to the Blue Hills.

I can tell you that the WMNR studios are wonderful now compared to what they were before the move - and this is coming from the guy who was student C.E. there in the mid 70's, seeing the very first move from a classsroom to real studios thanks to the high school rennovation in 1975-1976. It's a long way from Audimax/Voluman days, or even the Gates Level Devil or the Collins mono compressor they ran before that! The Omnia sounds quite nice and I'm not entirely sure if someone tied it into the streaming computer as well.

I can tell you that one of the Stereo 80's has a home in another radio station after it sat in my living room, as I had thoughts of using it until I picked up a 15 pot slide console for my webcast station. I do have a couple of the Otari's from there as well as the first new solid state (mono) console they purchased back in 1974!

Heard a buzz on 'BCN a few yrs. ago - contacted the CE & it took him awhile to track down a faulty piece of switchgear at the xmtr site.

Rocket104.7-/WKPE Orleans/Hyannis has had the same issue for years, but the engineers have done nothing about it.

You can only hear the buzz/whine in the background when the jock is talking - not when spots or music is playing.

In that case, could it be in the mic preamp?

Here in Poughkeepsie, WEZN is coming in better than usual this morning, coming in clearly between WDST-100.1 and WJUX-99.7 and I don't hear the whine. Then again, I can't hear 19k.... and my receiver is mono. Maybe that makes a difference. Audio sounds very good. By the way, I was surprised that their traffic guy doesn't speak really well... lots of slurring. Had to really pay attention to understand him.
______________
