Another 99 watt translator move-in for Bham

I was thinking there was an HD3 station for WQEN which could rebroadcast on 96.1...assuming the application is approved, of course. I take it from your post there isn't a WQEN HD3...?

I would agree with you, though about the idea of placing "Hallelujah" on 96.1 since it would provide better coverage than what the 105.1 signal currently provides.

Since there doesn't appear to be a WERC (or WQEN) HD3, might Clear Channel possibly use AM 960 as the originating station for this yet-to-be-approved outlet? Stranger things have happened. Many of us thought they would never consider sacrificing the 960/105.5 simulcast in order for the AM to simulcast the Vulcan, but it did happen. I'm wondering if the return of the WERC simulcast is only temporary, and other plans are in the works for WVVB, should Clear Channel get the "green light" on upgrading 96.1. They could promote the stations collectively as "AM/FM 96". Just a thought... ;)

Any chance Clear Channel may try to use one of their Classic Rock or Oldies formats to compete with 97.7 The Peach or the ratings dwindling Rock 99?

Either of those formats would attract an audience that is familiar with AM, especially the Oldies format... In that case, the target audience would actually listen to the AM side whereas Vulcan listeners likely didn't listen to the AM side.

The 96.1 which is owned by the Educational Media Foundation, the same folks as WAY-FM will broadcast their religious content. This was arranged with a swap deal for 105.1 which broadcasts the Hallelujah Gospel format. 96.1 will be on 105.5 HD3. Creating an HD3 channel is easy, it is all about slicing up bandwidth. Just because an HD station is not using an HD3 channel doesn't mean it can't, it simply means that have not elected to use it.

What happens with the EMF translator, W241BD, licensed to Calera, which is also at 96.1? It is currently rebroadcasting WGIB, with the xmtr in the Alabaster area. Do you know if it will be used in conjunction with the Bham translator to air WAY-FM?
