Another AM License surrendered by letter

if things go well, wqbc should return to the air sometime in the next couple weeks at a temporary site until a suitable site can be found and everything constructed. Last I heard a transmitter was being delivered to the site over the weekend...

Netherland's AM was on 1530 ... programmed black ... I believe it was 250 watts, daytimer, with 3 tower directional ... a facility I never would have considered building.

There was another station in Yazoo City around 1230 AM buy I can't remember the name or format. Picked it up on a car radio a few times. when did that one leave the air? BTW. What will the format be on WQBC? It seems WQBC didn't really get out that well back when it was on the air.

WAZF-AM in Yazoo City. Studio and tower sat on top of a high hill in downtown Yazoo City. The last owner ran the station into the ground and the FCC deleted the license. I met "Hillbilly" Willie Harrell there around 1993-94.

Hillbilly Willie? I remember him from KY107 Vicksburg when I was a kid. Surprised to hear him briefly on WOKJ in Jackson when they went country. Last time I heard him he was on WQST Forest.

qbc will come back with ABC/Citadel Touch format that I know of right now. There will be some other programming soon, some local as they get their automation and all in order and get a proper studio setup. Initial plans include sat receiver sitting at tx site for the first couple weeks.

Regarding WJNS ... I knew Joel Netherland back in the early 70s; we considered ourselves as pioneers, both running FM stand alone stations, when most other FMs were operated as a stepchild of an established AM. Hadn't thought of him in years, but when I googled his name, I learned he was murdered in the early 90s.

If all WQBC lost was the tower lease. Couldn't they just have moved their transmitter and studio equipment to a new location so they wouldn't have to get new stuff?

Stephen may know more about this than me, but I think Debut Broadcasting removed all the equipment when the site lease wasn't renewed. Basically, the current owner just bought a license.

actually, Mike Corley last has possession before it went off air, he lost the lease on the site and sold off all the equipment. He later sold (donated?) the license to costar broadcasting group which is Mike Davis.

Last I heard earlier today, the transmitter was to be placed in the building sometime tonight.

Still don't have a satellite dish or automation PC that I know of.
