Another Automation Question

If you had a station, and had bucks behind you. What Automation Software would you choose. Which is the most user friendly(for your part time jocks and full time tech ignorant types) Stable, and easy to use.
I like Scott personally, but is it true Scott is going out of business?
Name your faves here....

I would likely pair wheatstone digital consoles with RCS's Gselector and their Nexgen automation system. I like nexgen's backup abiltiies and DRR and also nexgen is very stable it runs and runs and runs and does not require reboots or insane config ini files. Also very user friendly and if i had to automate and use voicetracking you can't beat Nexgen's voicetracing it's very straight forward and easy to program multiple stations plus RCS's Nexgen support is top notch.

My two cents though.

Thanks Xmusicmatt..

Gonna take a look now. Seems like w/ processing power increases, automation systems seem to pop out of the closet at the same rate. I'm trying to stay upto the latest systems, but there are so many out there, I am trying to find the best, and easiest for airstaff. This would probably be the best approach for my clients, I love engineers, but sometimes, the thought processes of engineers are a bit out of alignment w/ the capabilities of the folks that need to use the gear the engineers spec. I want to educate myself more to help bridge the gap between the 2 departments. Your input is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the time to respond!

it makes me happy to see someone concerned about the interface for the on-air talent...cuz that means you'll HAVE someone in the studio.

Scott Studios is very user-friendly as is RCS's NexGen. If I had to pick one or the other, I'd lean towards NexGen, though.

I would have leaned more toward Scott Studios *until* Google's announcement that they were selling that division. With that happening, Scott Studios' future...it's tech support, hardware/software updates...is all up in the air. For the "right now" answer, if money's no object...you gotta go with Nexgen.

I would also look at AudioVault (http://www.bdcast.com/hierarchy/major.php?maj=101). I've been using it for the last 8 years. I think it might be what you are looking for. Interns are using it at a sister station so I think your part-timers and full-timers wouldn't have much of a problem. With the system you can utilize "Hot Starts" through the AVRPS deck, simultaneous records (4 at once!) via the AVRPS decks (Scott Studios/Google cannot do this I am told), multiple satellite records, etc. Tech Support is always first class.

I can't speak for the others because I've never used them.

Google/Maestro can do 4 records at once. It will do what ever the audio card supports. I have units that have cards with 4 plays and 4 record streams, and I have two of those in each machine. So really, I could do 8 records at the same time!

However, given an unlimited budget, I'd give the nod to nextgen.

I'm hearing from several that their tech support has become nothing short of terrible lately at Scotts-Google(less)-Shiestro. Considering they were sub-par before they layed off people I'd have to say RUN from them at this point. RCS dude... You won't go wrong!
