Another Big News: Glen Beck Is Coming to WOR

In addition to Lou Dobbs coming to the station, Allan Sniffen posted on the Dentist Board that Glen Beck is coming to WOR starting January 5th replacing Steve Malzberg. Glen Beck is a successful talk show host and it still can be heard on 1450 WKIP in Poughkeepsie and 1370 WELG in Ellenville, the two talk stations in the Hudson Valley listening area. Prior to that, he was on WGHQ when it was a talk station on 920 at the time before it went to "Timeless Favorites". I'm really sure if Glen Beck will be filling in his shoes on WOR's time slot. Of course Lou Dobbs will be coming to WOR next month. I was previously mentioned that I remember when he was on WGNY-AM in Newburgh back in the summer where Lou Dobbs was on an oldies station where it doesn't fit the format breaking away from the 50's and 60's oldies to a political talk show. That must be a bad move for WGNY-AM, now Lou is coming to WOR next month to fill in his shoes.

If true, I have three words...

It's. About. Time.

How awkward was it for him to be doing both his radio and TV shows from New York without clearance for his radio show there all this time.

I guess the clearance will coincide with the launch of his new TV show on Fox News next year.

And surprisingly, Sniffen suggests Joan Hamburg might remain on the schedule when all is said and done. Despite being a "demo assassin," she still rakes in a lot of dough for the Buckleys. Even if she gets moved to afternoons opposite El Rushbo, everyone will be happy, even if she does break up the flow of the issues-oriented talk programming.

A big plus for WOR !

Q: Will he be live at 9AM or will he be taped delayed to the afternoon?

WOR ought to clear at least two hours of Beck live. Even if they choose to carry the first two hours and even air Hamburg or the food show at 11 AM, it'll be a win-win for them.

It seems that no sooner than I typed that, David Hinckley confirmed that Beck will indeed be carried from 9-11 am, followed by two hours of Joan Hamburg, and... the return of Dr. Joy Browne to the afternoon lineup, albeit for one hour. Dobbs will run from 2-4 pm.

Which means that the food show will join the departing Bill O'Reilly and Dennis Miller in heading for the exits.

I think the addition of Beck will no doubt boost the station's younger demos. I'm sure the third hour will clear once Hamburg retires; as long as she's printing money, I don't think she's going anywhere.

Beck's on enough affiliates.
Great to hear NY losing another NY-sounding station. Now, WOR will be more syndicated and sound just like nearly every other talk radio station.

Joan is great as was the food show. I heard callers from Long Island, Astoria, Staten Island and all over the area. With good local talk.
You're not going to get that on Beck or Hannity or Limbo or 970, which air generic all-political, all the time talk.

Again, while I'm all for local talk, I just thought that, for the longest time, Beck doing both of his shows from New York City without a terrestrial affiliate there seemed kind of awkward.

By the way, I've been sampling WOR trying to hear if they've been promoting Beck, but I'm hearing more promos for Lou Dobbs, and even ones for Hamburg's new time slot. I guess it's luck of the draw; I'm sure they're running promos, but I'm just not catching them...
