Another Burlington Radio station.... Yikes

Found this in the Williston News Paper.
How much is enough

A Connecticut company has won approval for an antenna that will beam a new radio station to area listeners, adding to the cacophony of signals in an already crowded market.
Impact Radio Inc. plans to broadcast locally at 97.5 on the FM dial. The company is headed by partners John Fuller and Arthur Belendiuk, who operate two stations in the New London, Conn., area. Fuller said he does not yet know the new station’s call letters.
The Williston Development Review Board granted approval last week for the antenna. It will be located on an existing 100-foot-tall communications tower on Brownell Mountain near the St. George town line.
Earlier this year, Fuller said he submitted the winning bid of about $925,000 during a Federal Communications Commission auction of new frequencies. He and his partner received a 25 percent discount off that price under FCC rules because they own five or fewer stations.
The new station is licensed in Bristol but its coverage area will extend from that town to just south of St. Albans.

If they use 97.5 I won't get em in the NEK magic 97.7 WGMT will kill em. how about 97.7 out of montreal wont that put an effect on it in the st. Albans area? does anyone have the predicted coverage for this station?

Wonder what brand of automation system they'll use.... :-\

(Just another point of view)

Does anyone know the deal with this new station @ 97.5 ? What format would work since there are already so many Fm's up here.

Sounds like they're stunting tonight. If this is any indication of what the station will do, looks like they will try to fill the gap that KOOL left when they edged up to "Classic Hits" from Oldies.
Who knows......

apparently the stations they own down there are WWRX 107.7 (hip hop) and WBMW 106.5 (soft rock)
but don't know format of the new operation in VT

calls to be WTNN...8.75kW according to Radio World

Is this station a 25kw C3 ? Seems like it to me. Good format holes would be a "Soft AC", similar to the old "Lake 103". Smooth Jazz, Burlington can handle it. 50's and 60's Oldies, similar to the old "Q 92". Not needed would be AAA, rock, CHR, country, N/T. Of course, "Air America" is homeless in the "People's Republic of Burlington".. Bet this gets spun to an existing player in the market after it's built and signed on.

For a time smooth jazz was on the 92.1 lic. to Port Henry NY (though I believe the station had studios
at one point on Rt 7 in Middlebury)

DUH people! WOKO has almost a 20 share in the market with the next closest station at 9...don't you think it might be a good idea for them to go country? Seems like there is plenty of shares to steal there. Better than a Smooth Jazz or another talk or A/C. They get 1/3 of WOKO listeners and they already have a 6.5-7 share beating Champ, WIZN, Kool, WNCS and many more. Many Northeast markets have more than one country station--and they both get respectable numbers.

Depends on the effectiveness of the signal. There's already classic country on US 93.7, and "real country" on WLFE in St. Albans, plus Froggy in Barre to a certain degree. WOKO has a 100kw stick that is centered right in the heart of Burlington and WOKO has almost 20 years heritage in the format. Some have tried, remember the "Kixx 96.7" experiment ? That went over like a Led Zeppelin..

Well, according to the link to radio locator provided by raccoonradio....the format is talk. Could it be "Talk News Network?" Like Burlington needs another talk station. BUT, there IS that lack of "liberal" talk these days. And in Burlington, that seems like a hole that should be filled.
Just thoughts.....

I got it.. Here's how the 97.5 frequency could be a factor in Burlington as country.. Picture this scenerio.. The WTNN folks do some kind of LMA or outright sale to Citadel provided the signal is worthy. They can simultcast WPKQ Mount Washington, which simultcasts WOKQ 97.5 in Dover NH.. Got it ? This can also give Citadel, perhaps an entry ticket into Burlington, perhaps acquiring some of the other properties that are for sale. WOKO is largely based on the format of WOKQ anyway, and that should perhaps allow New England's True Country Giant expanded reach into all major Northern New England Cities... Just a twisted thought.. They can also sell out to Dennis Jackson, and simultcast WCLX on that if there would be any true benefit to that..

There are two other Country stations beaming into the market - 102.3 WLFE in St Albans covers St Albans and Plattsburgh well and then US 93.7 runs the gamut, covering from about Brandon all the way up the Champlain Valley to Colchester/Milton.
