Another Chicago area AM station loses transmitter site (1280 WBIG)

As reported in the Chicago Forum, WBIG AM 1280 and its translator W288EA 105.5 is being sold to Matt Dubiel (DuPage Radio). Matt also owns WCKG AM 1530 and it's translator W272DQ FM 102.3. The selling price is $ 50,000. At the same time the current owner is selling the land where the WBIG antennas are located to a residential developer. This means that WBIG will need to find another location for it's transmitting facilities and possibly go off the air for certain periods of time. For Chicago area DXers this will probably provide a good chance to hear new stations on AM 1280.

Couple of my pictures of WBIG 1280 at Eola Road in Aurora, IL:

As WMRO (calls stood for original owner Martin R. O'Brien), 1280 was a real fixture in Aurora as a small-town full-service station, or as full as economics would allow. Way back, it was where Chick Hearn got his start, as well as fellow NBA announcers Steve Klauke and Jerry Gross

I don't recall ever hearing this station when I lived in Chicago in the late 1990s. Looking at the station's directional pattern gives me a good idea why, for my location was near the north end of Lake Shore Drive.
