Another CHR for Knoxville, TN

Yesterday, South Central flipped adult hits WQJK "95.7 Jack FM" to mainstream CHR as "95.7 Power FM" with the tagline of "Maximum Hits".(www.957powerfm.com) According to the press release, they'll be music intensive (probably jockless), with a "high energy approach and no annoying dj chatter". This puts them in direct competition with Journal Broadcasting's crosstown mainstream CHR WWST "Star 102.1", and rhythmic CHR WKHT " Hot 104.5". The move is seen as a flanker move to protect South Central's AC WJXB "B97.5" from Star 102.1 which has recently been trending up and tying B in the ratings.

This should be interesting as there is speculation that it may trigger other moves in the Knoxville market. (currently there is no adult hits or classic hits format in the market).

Looks like you're right about the jockless part. The website says "The best of pop, urban, alternative, hip-hop, and rock music – all without ANY annoying DJ chatter." If they think they're going to beat Star with no jocks and a much smaller signal, they are mistaken. Then again their aim probably isn't to beat Star, but to keep Star from beating B97.5, but still. Listeners like the entertainment value that jocks bring.

Dull web presence, too. Not looking to win with this ...
