ANOTHER CHRISTMAS STATION IN THE CLEVELAND MARKET

> Does 1450 WLEC count?
>

Really...they are Sandusky...not Cleveland. They'd be lucky to cover one county in the Cleveland metro.

In cars, WLEC has an OK signal for a 1,000-watt AM on a graveyard frequency (1230, 1240, 1340, 1400, 1450, 1490). But, at night...they, and all stations on those frequencies...are lucky to cover a 10 to 12-mile radius of their transmitter. And, in-home or in-business reception is maybe a 20 or 25-mile radius daytime.

So...they're Sandusky...no way a Cleveland metro station. That's like saying Thanksgiving is a Christmas-period holiday...it's on the far fringe.

What about Star 97?

Coming back to college this afternoon I heard Star 97.1 WREO is now all-Christmas.

I realize that, but if we are considering counting a Sandusky station. Just making an observation.

WREO is technically aimed towards both Ashtabula and Erie, PA - but only because of the huge 50KW signal. (Ironically, CC has no presence in the Erie market...) It's nowhere close to Cleveland.

As Doc Thompson says in the legal ID, it's "WREO - Ashtabula, Erie and You!"

A rip-off of the old WMMS IDs by the irreplaceable Boom Goldberg.

Re: What about Star 97?

Well if it's not a Cleveland station, then it's considered a North East Ohio station....but then why does Cleveland claim they're North East Ohio if it's actually North Central Ohio?

WCPZ-FM in Sandusky bills itself as "the voice of North Central Ohio," as well as "the North Coast's Mix 102.7." WEOL-AM's news reports are sometimes promoted as "the latest news from Northern Ohio."

You got me here. Ahh, if only we were in, say, Toledo ;)
