Another Clear Channel Casualty

I heard on 700 WLW America's Trucking Network that Bubba Bo has been let go. Steve Sommers made the annoucement Saturday Morning on the program. Bubba can still be heard weekday mornings on Eagle 99.3 FM WSCH Aurora, Indiana.

Radioactive really needs to buy up the Cincinnati cluster and bring sanity back to radio.

That's too bad about Bubba Bo as He had quite a following on the weekends. I wonder who will fill in for Steve when He goes on vacation now? Not to mention the weekend shift.

Unbelievable! Does it ever stop with this company? Apparently not.

...just checked WLW's online program guide - Steve Sommers has the "privlege" of working Thur/Fri/Sat/Sun overnites.

Does anyone know if these were live/VT'd/or "Best Of"?

The liner said "best of" but knind of sounded like Steve had at least recorded a custom bit explaining Bubba Bo's departure. The automation bailed out of a song into a stop set at 12:20.

That's too bad, I really enjoyed hearing Bubba again.

I listened yesterday morning on my drive to work and didn't even think twice about hearing Steve on early Saturday morning. This morning though, I thought something was odd when I got into the car about 4:15, and it felt like "Groundhog Day" because as I was backing out of the garage I heard the exact same thing as yesterday morning when I was also backing out of the garage!

Not sure what listenership is like on the overnights, especially on weekends, but if they are just going to repeat a show from earlier in the week, I see many people looking for something else.

Best of...Boshears also got the ax infavor of a "best of Willie" That is going to he hard to put together....since..well...HE Sucks!

I always felt bad for Bubba Bo. He'd wax eloquently for upwards of ten minutes on how valuable truck drivers were, and how overlooked they were by society, and how decent and well-spoken and intelligent they were. I work with truck drivers every day and I know he's right.

Then he'd go to the phone and....well let's just say the truckers Bubba spoke about are not the people that called in. Bubba was great, but they relied wayyy too much on phone calls from idiots. I quit listening to WLW overnights a lonnng time ago. If I'm awake, I'll check out WGN, especially on the weekends when Nick Digilio is on.

The weekend with Mike Mcconnell is on now. I guess its rerums from 9--midnight now Sat&Sun instead of live programming.

Thank GOD Boshears is gone!!! The absolute <second> worst talk radio show I'd ever heard...Art Bell for hillbillies.

Sorry he lost his job, but it was a job he never should have had to begin with.

Edited to say that I need to modify my statement. While Boshears is awful, I forgot...Matt Drudge still has a radio show.

From Kiesewetter's blog:
Darryl Parks, AM operations manager, called dropping Boshears and Bubba Bo part of a "station restructuring" as the station puts more resources in podcasts, the web and "future platforms for delivery."

Is it just my imagination, or does it sound like Clear Channel Cincinnati is spinning down their AM holdings? This would make sense even more in light of the fact that they may still have to divest some big numbers in the wake of selling WKRC-TV. It would also fit the Clear Channel way of business: knock it down so that it's not as competitive before you sell it, thus reducing competition in numbers for what remains in the cluster. Remember, it's all about the almighty dollar and there aren't that many dollars in radio right now.

Just a wild eyed conspiracy theory for your Monday morning.

I can't really comment on the trucker fellow as I never listen to that stuff.

I CAN comment on Bill Boshears though. If there ever was a talk show host given a huge audience that went on to completely blow it, its Bill.

1. He used to at least have different topics on every show. Ok, this may have been years ago. But some of the odd-ball theories were interesting.

2. Lately he only seemed to have one of two guests on. One guy was selling Oil of Oregano and the other was Larry Nichols. I heard him talking but I have no idea what he every really was saying, something about Bill Clinton. I usually just listened long enough to decide that it sounded just like it did the last time I tuned in.

Drudge seems to be following in Boshear's footsteps. Only he is getting it accomplished without the help of any guests.

Please oh please could Cutler be next??? Please??? ???

Cutler at least brings his own audience to the show with him. No one is better at asking and answering his own questions for hour after hour. No need for phones when Cutler is there.

I hope Andy trashes the hell out of WLW, though he probably won't.

I will personally purchase the products of Andy's first three advertisers.*

*$10 max

One of the aspects that will be missing from Furman's new show will be the lack of fellow employees to play off. At WLW, he would occasionally get into on-air battles with the likes of Cunningham and McConnell, and one of the other perosonalities would drop into the studio during his show.

Thats definately is going to be a negative. He can't surround himself with restaurant owners for every show. Maybe he can work something out.

Just another reason that non-local radio sucks.
