Another Clear Channel Los Angeles Layoff?

With the "departure" revealed quietly over the weekend of KYSR 98.7 General Manager, Craig Rossi, another high paid executive at the Clear Channel LA cluster is gone. Craig has landed a significant job as President, Western Region, for Citadel but won't oversee the former ABC clusters in LA and San Francisco even though he'll be based in LA (presumably at the ABC radio facilities). Good for him, he's a good guy.

Craig was the last remaining station specific "VP/GM" at CCLA under Greg Ashlock. Apparently Craig will be not be replaced. Instead, a Local Sales Manager for 98.7 will be hired...a position they've been advertising for several weeks. I suspect this move has been in the works for some time. While the headcount stays the same the payroll difference saves them what, about $125,000 or so...?

What is anyone else hearing?

Things like this don't happen instantly. Of course this has been in the works for a while. Since STAR has been downsized in many ways, and who knows whose next why not abandon ship. The key words here are "exit strategy". Those without contracts keeping them there are getting the heck out. I believe Rossi's wife is and AE at one of the stations, will she leave and end up at Citadel too? As for what CC is saving, I would think GM's make more that 125k. Unless you're subtracting the salary of the new GSM. Then again this is CC we're talking about, they may be offering some very low salaries now. The odd thing is that he'll be based in LA and not overseeing the LA & SF clusters. Could that be because of some contractual obligation to CC?

SoCalGuy was referring to the difference between the outgoing GM's salary and what they'll probably pay for an LSM as being $125k-- that's how much CC would save in replacing a GM with an LSM.

All the former ABC stations Citadel now owns are being overseen by Mitch Dolan out of NY (their boss prior to the acquisition by Citadel)...which probably explains why Rossi's region does not include those stations.

That makes sense, thanks for the clarification. As for the dollar amounts, that's what I thought.

Another lay off DOES NOT surprise me... I think this is the very beginning of lay-offs as they will be doing more now and throughout the end of the year as contracts are up...

Also, there have been people leaving on their own as a result of this mess.. I think if people have the option to get a job they enjoy with a good salary elsewhere, they would leave Clear Channel in an instant.

Not too many people like change... especially something so drastic.
