Another Comcast Rant

When will Comcast get their collective thumb out of a certain orifice? Here in New Haven, our HD lineup is still very poor. I see their commercials which portray their greay lineup, more than satellite.

For my local area, I say Bull***t! All we have is the local networks, CNN, TBS, TNT, ESPN, YES and a couple of the Discovery/NatGeo channels. What abour ScfFi? What about USA? Fox News? BBC America, etc? I know Cablevision in the Bronx has a lot more channels on HD.

Is Comcast this slow nationwide, or it just this local area?

Maybe this belongs somewhere else (I don't want to take away from your complaint), but it is another Comcast rant:

Has anyone noticed the weird, lengthy commercial breaks on the cable channels? For instance, sometimes the commercial breaks are extra long, taking out an entire segment of a show. At first I thought it was me, because I tend to channel surf and then go back when it's too late, missing a segment and finding another commercial on. But it's not the case, because I've witnessed it a few times this week alone, and I wasn't channel surfing at the time. I forget the name of the show we were watching, but there were 3 contestants on some Food network show, and they did some cooking and were going to be judged. Well it went to break after the #1 person and then there was commercial after commercial - you could tell a segment was skipped. Then the show resumed with contestant #3. The segment with contestant #2 was totally wiped out, and you only saw that person at the end of the show when they judged all 3 of them. So you know something was missing! Another example, I was watching Sopranos on A&E, and it was toward the end of the show. The commercial came on, you could tell there were too many commercials for that commercial break, and then after the break it was another program on. There was no final scene or closing credits to the Sopranos, nor were there any opening credits to the following show. We basically joined the following show already in progress. Usually this happens at night and usually it's regular commercials followed by COMCAST commercials when this occurrs (the Mr. Jay Mr. Jay one with the guy on the bike, or the Comcast bundle special). One last thing, around 3 a.m., nearly all of the shows on the cable channels just stop and go to infomercials. For example, at 3 a.m., something will come on Comedy Central, then maybe at 3:01 it will cut to infomercials with no notice at all. This happens with A&E, TLC, TNT, Discovery, (I think TBS too), etc. I don't know what they're doing there but it's pretty annoying! This NEVER happened when we had Tele-Media. Comcast came in and ran our franchise & lineup into the ground.

Tele-Joke (oops, I mean Tele-Media) wasn't all that great to begin with, either. I've had DirecTV for more than 5 years and I never looked back at cable. From all the garbage I put up with when I had Tele-Media and what I hear people going through with Comcast it sounds like I made a better decision.

Wow, and that's Comcast? In New Haven, we have nothing like that amount.
 
Comcast in north suburban Chicago has at least that many HD channels. Maybe more, as we have more HD local channels available. As it happens, Comcast just added FX HD and FNC HD for us too. So that must have been a corporate decision. Nor do we get Travel Channel in HD (as is the case in Metro Boston). And, addressing an earlier comment in the thread, I don't think that BBC America even offers an HD feed yet.

I do wish that Comcast would add TWC HD, but aside from that I am pretty satisfied with the lineup at this point. However, they are charging an arm and a leg for it here and I had to scrap HBO and Showtime upon moving to the area because the cost was an extra $28 a month over what it was back east.
 
Wow, I just realized...I think this is a lot to be proud of. I just looked at the HD Lineup for Charter in the Worcester area, and they don't even carry HD feeds of WSBK or WLVI! I wonder if and when they will. I also wonder if/when Comcast will add NHPTV HD, if they even have an HD feed.

I thought I saw a BBC promo last year that HD was coming. Nonetheless, I guess we're really getting the shaft from Comcast around here then.

Last I heard they may launch in the spring, coinciding with the new "5 episodes in 5 nights" season of Torchwood.
