Flo Rida has his new song sampling "In a dream" by Rockell. Not nearly as good as Rockell's song, but the instrumental sounds pretty good though. I always liked Jossette's version of "In A Dream" produced by Galaxy Freestyle, The Carnival Club Mix to be specific.
There are a lot of other original urban house tracks (or new generation booty house) that are on the verge of being released to rhythmic and maybe top 40 radio mix/club play. I believe most of them will only make it to mix show play because they seem to be too awkward for radio. ...or who knows? What was awkward yesterday isn't always awkward tomorrow. Things and styles change. Some of those songs are already being featured on the Future Flavaz show on our local rhythmic station, so they could possibly be in rotation soon. I seriously doubted "hotel room service" making it outside of mix show play. LMFAO has already proven to be able to cross the barrier, and they also have a next release (Shots ft Lil Jon) on the way as of right now, that fits right in with those other upcoming songs that I was talking about. Some of it is more like a fusion of Baltimore Club sound, with the hard house beats and hypeness that you can find in the old school booty house beats, such as "Pump it" or "Butta" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC7HhG_XnPA by Pamp & Dan Knox and other stuff found on some of To Kool Chris's booty house compilations or productions similar to what Dance Works used to do. Then there are others that are just original house and electronic melody rhythms with r&b styled singing (many times auto-tuned) and sometimes rap.

I said, "I seriously doubted", which is past tense. This means that before it broke fully to radio, I doubted it would happen. There are many artists out there who do put out stiffs, and how hot they are or aren't doesn't matter because that will not make the song any better if it's not all that great. Pitbull has released a few stiffs, and so has Beyonce... and Ciara.... I'll just end the list there. Coincidentally, all those artists I happened to mention messed up on a FIRST single to their upcoming albums, causing some of them to push back the release date to make room and time for a "second first release". That song by Flo Rida sampling "in a dream", I can bet it will not go anywhere, and even to this day, I'll still predict that the very hot artist Lil Wayne's Prom Queen song wont make it, even if he or his record label became hotter than the sun.
I'd really like to see how long "hotel room service" will last on radio. WNYZ has been playing Hotel Room Service for TWO MONTHS already, Z100, KTU, and NOW have not touched it. Hotel Room Service isn't a dance song, it's a Rhythmic song. That's one good thing about mainstream dance stations like Pulse, they play pop hits months before the CHRs. Same thing with alternative rock stations, they play some pop hits months before the CHRs. Pulse even plays new Britney Spears songs before the CHRs. Pulse has been playing Pitbull - Calle Ocho since January and the original song it's sampled from, 75 Brazil Street since last summer. If they could just promote that fact (such as billboards or "commercials" on their digital channel 6), they can steal some audience from Z100 and NOW that are fed up with the repetitive hits. College radio back in the day took pride on playing tomorrow's pop hits today.
KDM, you post a lot of good comments here, but keep in mind this is not the Phoenix board. A lot of your posts seem to reference the radio dial in Phoenix. I know you try to listen to plenty of other statioons in other markets, but you still seem to be stuck on the idea that a song's success is judged based on the amount of airplay it receives in your market. Just b/c a song isn't played there doesn't mean there isn't a story unfolding nationally or that it hasn't broken to radio.

I did notice WBTS already has it in full rotation, which is surprising, because prior to the point of "The Anthem", all of Atlanta seemed to be severely slacking on Pitbull material.
I just cannot see the long lasting power of this song, due to how poorly the instrumentation quality has been done, in addition to some of the lyrics. The song could have been made much much better in my opinion.... but I cannot accurately predict which songs I think will make it this year since quite a bit of things have been going against my expectations lately.

I know I say it, but.. I guess it's easier for me to say it than it is to believe it. When you say it, sounds great, but then when you actually hear or experience it, it sounds unbelievable. Without using the Arizona Cardinals making it to the finals as an example to this, I'll just say it's been a while since a song with a house beat intro and some breaks in the middle has made it to mainstream radio play, so "hotel room service" really did catch me by surprise when I heard another station just play it by itself, then see yes dot com showing others already doing it. It's almost like when I thought "I know you want me" was too latin to make it big today, but then next thing I knew, it blew up huge.
Although I do have it in my Ipod, I don't really feel Kim Sozzi's song too much either, and can't imagine it as a widely known or long lasting top 40 release, however, it is right there on Promo Only edition.... well I forget, but I saw it somewhere for July 2009. I think David Guetta's song is not really all that, but it is very well done with a lot of quality put into it. I find it exciting mostly because it is a dance track that has potential and sounds radio friendly, while still keeping true to the real dance sound AND without having to have any rap in it at all. It beats the hell out of Ne-yo's "closer" when it comes to a real dance sound and makes Chris Brown's "forever" look so weak. I can't say "when love takes over" is my favorite track, but it definitely sounds really good on the radio, and is one of those songs that are just all around well done and acceptable. I think some minor improvements could be made to "I gotta feeling" by Black Eyed Peas.

I'm glad u mentioned the Chicago track.....great record! However, I think 75 Brazil St did not sample the Bucketsheads, but instead sampled the original source on the same "Street Player" record. It makes everybody think of "The Bomb" since that is how the sample got exposed, but if u listen closely, it does not have any of the bucketheads production on the short piece of "Street Player" contained on either Brazil or Calle.
