Another Day, Another Couple Of Pirates Busted...

Nick stop complaining.... thats all you do on these boards tell them why you mad?

not at all sir but what can we do trust me i had my fair share with pirate radio stations when i use to work for a radio station even though it was a 10-watt college station. My other argument you should also complain about the big radio companies too.

Nothing gets done about pirates, besides letters. They can ignore those NOUOs and NALs all they want. The FCC and police will only raid one or two pirates a year in the country. This year, one of the raids was in Orlando for a guy advertising drug dealers with his pirate station. Bottom line is, the pirate has to be doing other illegal stuff to get raided. There are a couple high profile pirates in Boston that have been on for years and never been raided. The FCC agents have better things to do. Even if they visit a pirate, the station won't even go off the air after they leave, if they're allowed entry at all.

I wish we could just get a large group of people organized to raid the pirates ourselves. But alas, I'm not too concerned about pirates. The only two pirates I really hated were 87.9 in Newark and 90.1 in Plainfield. 87.9 interfered with my beloved Pulse 87, and 90.1 interfered with 90.3 The Core only 5 miles away from the transmitter and played uncensored rap.

Word...I remember a white supremacist pirate that simulcasted the Hal Turner Show on 95.1, that broadcasted for years in the North Jersey area. You'd think if anyone was to be made an example out of it would have been these people. I never really cared much about pirates until around 2005, when the rap pirate on 106.3 came to air because it interfered with the former G-Rock. Its too bad most of them are so worthless and redundant when it comes to station content. I've always wondered why no one makes a rock or indie pirate.

Not that I'm glorifying it, but the only pirate I've heard that breaks the norms of what's expected from pirate stations is 92.9 The Beat in Trenton, NJ. Believe it or not, it has a dance format and seems to be broadcasting out of a nightclub in Trenton. It's been on for many years. There are a couple dance pirates in Minnesota and one in Seattle, so that makes only 4 dance pirates I know of nationwide.

Wasn't there a rock pirate based out of a ship in international waters decades ago? That would be the ultimate pirate, out of the jurisdiction of the FCC. I guess the only "legal" way to broadcast a pirate station is to do it 12 miles offshore.

"RNI Were The Wet One".... Yep Radio New York International In 1987. They now broadcast online at: http://www.stickam.com/hankandjim. They also have a tribute site: http://www.rfny.us. Its my favorite internet station in the world. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys radio and how it used to be. The original RNI, WFAT, And WHOT DJ's Hank and Jim have there show Tuesday and Friday nights and Pete Sayek has his show on Wednesday nights but every show on the network is fun and enjoyable to listen to.

They broadcasted on 1620 during the summer '87. They were just outside in International Waters but got busted anyway.
Probably due to that pesky International agreement on interference.

Great signal to Seaside.
