Another Dumb WRKO/ Red Sox Spot

Did anyone hear the spot WRKO is currently running that tells the listeners to turn to turn to WRKO exclusively for all the post season Red Sox games.

That is followed by an announcement to turn to "our sister station WEEI for tonight's game."

Typical !

I've pointed that out and also have complained via the form on WRKO's site but it looks like this
will continue. For ratings purposes, they'll put some games on WEEI rather than on BOTH stations,
such as tonight. I hope they do air it on both, but they are indeed doing false advertising. (Other
stations also do false advertising, like when WTKK said "Boston's only talk station" or "the only
full time talk station"--ignoring WTTT)

At work WEEI does come in but with lots of static due to machinery and in many places it doesn't
come in at all. On these nights someone in the package sorting section tries WBOQ with a jerry-rigged
antenna. Shaky but sometimes it comes in. This doesn't need to happen. We're a few miles from
the WRKO stick. It should be on 680 AND 850. This is the playoffs.

Also as has been noted above 890 and 1400 will also have the game (via ESPN; signals even tougher
for me to get at work) so so much for "exclusivity". Exclusivity to the Red Sox NETWORK at least.

I guess you're just screwed. On the plus side, all of the listeners to the ESPN feed can take a booth at Bickford's and listen to the game together. Try the apple pancake.

They'd be better off trying to pull in the NY ESPN station (1050...the orig. home of WFAN) instead...
btw for those who are curious...of the top of my head--

Sox 680, 850, and I think their reg. network
ESPN 890/1400 Boston, 1410 Hartford, 790 Prov (?), 1050 NYC

Phillies 1210 (still?)
Yanks 880, 1410
Cubs maybe still on 720? if conditions are right
Angels, Rockies, D-backs--too far away
Indians--1100 (Tribe, Red Sox nation is pulling for ya!)

WPOP-AM 1410 of Hartford (ESPN Radio 1410) is a Yankees radio affiliate. The Red Sox air here on WTIC-AM 1080 of Hartford. (GO YANKEES!)

By the way, forgive my ignorance, but why was the game on WEEI-AM 850 and not WRKO-AM 680? Like WRKO-AM, my Walkman didn't get much of a signal past the Natick/Wayland flip-flop on I-90 West. As for Worcester and WCRN-AM 830, I was already aware of that station carrying it.

Technically it's the Red Sox Radio Network which is exclusive on WRKO, er, WEEI. The game itself
was also on WAMG/WLLH as part of ESPN's coverage. (Using a FM re-transmitter I was able
to get the Cubs-D-backs game tonight on WAMG)

The ads say "exclusively on WRKO" oh but on Wed. nights they are not. It will come into play if there's a game 5 of this series. Also a possible game 5 of ALCS if they make it to that round, and games 1 and 6
of the World Series if they get that far (both games to be hosted at Fenway). It is hoped that perhaps
by then WRKO would also carry the game, since they're kind of more important than Michael Savage.

Yes on both counts. WPHT is doing a fine job (for a news/talker) with the Phillies and WGN remains the proud flagship station of the Cubbies.

If anyone has Julie Kahn on their Christmas list, I have a fine gift idea for you: a dictionary. Clearly someone should at Entercom Boston should have one because they don't know what the word "exclusively" means. ::)

I can't understand it either. Exclusivity is not a difficult concept. Obviously the people at Entercom only speak English as their fourth language, or failed English miserably in junior high school.

Exclusively on WRKO ? ? ?

WEEI carries Wednesday night games.

Again they seem to think they have a loophole: "LOCAL coverage of the Sox, exclusively on WRKO"
meaning no ESPN coverage, but the Red Sox network. It's the "WRKO" part that's incorrect as we
found out last night, and the same will apply for an ALDS game 5 if necessary and for games 1 and 6
of the World Series if the Sox make it that far (I think I had said that one ALCS game would be on
a Wed., too, but checking the MLB.com site I find that there isn't.)

And the WTKK ads I mentioned: "Boston's only full time talk station"...again, they forget WTTT. The intent
is, "WRKO has sports pre-emptions and WBZ is talk only at night" but WTTT is indeed full time talk...and
they have also said "Boston's only talk station". Definitely wrong.

speaking of slogans I could swear WODS and WROR at one time used the slogan "the songs you grew up
with" (one may have used "The music you grew up with") and I'm not totally sure but I think both are
now saying "Boston's greatest hits" (not the album, but...). Or maybe it's just WROR using it but I
thought WODS was, too. Not that they may necessarily have the phrase copyrighted.

WRKO has used "The Talk Station" even though they had competition from WTKK, and I think WEEI
was using "The Sports Station"--ditto. Trying to make us think they were the only ones, eh? Well,
Ch 7 uses "The News Station". Maybe in these cases the word "best" is not said but implied.

Yikes. Are you really so obsessed with this that you want to discuss the validity of radio station slogans? What's next, a debate over whether GM really is the 'mark of excellence' or a investigation into whether quality really is 'job #1 at Ford?
And, precisely, just how lonely is lonely in regards to the Maytag repairman? And who really does play 'more music'?

Just fascinating.

TSB

It's just talk, just trivia. Take it easy.

By the way when WTKK was saying "Boston's Only Full Time Talk Station" they also had forgotten
to mention the WKOX/WXKS prog talk combo.

I'll talk about this till I'm blue in the font ::)
