ANOTHER ENTERCOM EXIT

We interupt the discussions of the past and the 300 pages of drivel repeating the same thing over and over and over about the WMYI format tweak, for some actual news from the area that no one has bothered to post here yet.

After six years at Entercom/Greenville, SC, Chase Murphy is leaving the OM/PD post at Top 40 WFBC (B93.7) and AC WSPA (Magic 98.9), and he'll take the OM gig at Clear Channel Top 40 KXXM (Mix 96.1) and AC KQXT (Q101.9) in San Antonio.

That is news! Guess there's been no word on who will replace him in Greenville?

Whoever it is, I doubt the new PD will change much at B93.7, but perhaps 98.9 may be tweaked with the format flip at WMYI (yes, I'm bringing it up again). Personally, I'd like 98.9 to stay straight AC and perhaps reinforce it as the station for the slightly older crowd. AC has done fairly well in the market, but a distinct separation between the two stations, I think, would benefit both (of course, they'll always be some overlap).

Well,...let's just move'em around, and no one will ever know!
Someone with a set, contact those two stations in San Antonio, and let them know the track record here of whom they shall soon have there. Sheeeeeeeesh,...warn them that all he did was Flip, Flop, and Flounder the two stations here. Yep,...I got my Black Hat on, but I ain't the only one with this opinion!!

Did he really do much of anything at either station? Not that I'm criticizing his performance, but the only thing I can think of is that he may be responsible for is making B93.7 a little more Rhythmic-leaning. Hell, they've had the same morning show for what like 14 years or so?

And Magic may have had a slight tweak here and there, but I haven't noticed anything in the past six years that stands out as an accomplishment.

Both stations have been fairly consistent ratings wise. But I guess someone thought he did something right.

He only programmed Magic for about 2 and a half years. You do have to say, their numbers were pretty good there (better than B's) during that time, and forced their competition to have to go in to a different direction. As for B, I have no idea, because I wasn't really following that station very closely before he became PD.

I wonder who they'll get for a replacement.

Radio programming has too many corporate restraints on it to induce
any kind of movement, change or tweaking. Might not be the guy's
fault.

Actually, Entercom gives stations a lot more 'wiggle room' than companies like Clear Channel or Cumulus. Their stations are more local.

I hope whoever takes over Magic will update the music more often. Once a year just isn't enough!

The next year will be interesting, if MY sticks with their relatively Hot AC. I know you've even mentioned that Magic seemed to be getting quicker at picking up new adds after the MY flip...even though they still were pretty much firmly in the traditional AC camp.

Wonder if there'll be more of a war between them ...or if they'll let each other go their separate ways. I'm afraid if they start a ratings war over the same target audience that both will be stuck in a rut as far as letting to of the older music. I guess a lot will depend on the first full ratings book for MY. If they beat Magic, hopefully, they'll move more aggressively to all Hot AC. If they lose, it won't bode well for MY's future. If they're neck and neck, it could get ugly and that's where I'm afraid we'd be stuck with a Hotish AC and a traditional AC that tries to be hotter. And both may sound awful.

I doubt MY would go back to regular AC if (God forbid) their current direction didn't work.

I'd rather Magic continue to be a mainstream AC and not try to be "hotter" as well. In the summer book, the first book MY had as Hot AC, they beat Magic - but who knows if that's just because it was new or because people really liked it. I think Magic will rebound with Christmas. If the "Hot'ish AC" sound keeps working for MY, as it did in the summer book, I doubt they'll get much more aggressive than they were. Will be interesting to hear what new music they add after the holiday, and where we'll be a year from now.

Yeah, good one indeed. Who is actually programming anyway,
or allowed to? lmao What we hear now, is not programming
by any stretch!

Well,...(southern prefix)...I said, well...well...well...they sure are gettin' skinny over there. I guess they might hav-ta hire someome or teach the janitor how to run a board. Don't laugh, it's been done before! Aside from the workforce depleation, they need to completely overhaul that playlist. It is almost as bad as ROQ's; Overplayed, Burnt, and Pointless.
