Another faked winner?

A guy by the name of Travis Bailey is one of the "winners" of Hot 107.9's contest. But, uh oh, they apparently forgot to throw the phone effect on the "call." That's right ladies and gentlemen, they have faked ANOTHER winner. Any idiot can tell that the "call" was done in studio and was not done over the phone. Go to their website for details about the "contest" and you'll see that it's supposed to be done via phone calls. This guy was NOT on a phone call. Again, I wonder if Russ Oasis needs to be reminded that faking a contest is very illegal and they could be fined for this.

Can't tell if what you are saying is true or not. There is no audio to back your alligations up. Until I hear some, I'm not buying it. Even if I do hear some, if the guy uses VOIP and a good headset, it can sound pretty good. Nice try otherwise. Let us know when Elvis comes back.

If you're not in the area, don't comment because you can't listen. Believe me, if I had the ability (IE: a server) to post audio, I would be glad to. And this is no VOIP involved... it's in studio. Do you know anything about radio and the difference between something recorded off of a phone feed and something recorded in a studio? If you're such a big "radio geek" then you would be able to tell. This was a clear recording... it was done in studio. Anyone in the area who listens to the station can back me up on this.

Audio that's clear as a bell=done in studio and not over the phone.

Nice try at discrediting me, though. Let me know when the aliens attack.

Keep in mind, sometimes you get your winner and then rerecord it in studio to make sure the audio sounds good for promos down the road. Not saying that it wasn't a fake, I don't know, but there are other explanations

You can re-record in the studio but bottom line is there is still going to be the sound of the winner being on the phone. You can't change that... period.

As long as there was a legitimate winner, it doesn't matter if the winner audio was faked or not. Could be that the phone recorder died or the winner completely sucked.

SOUNDS GOOD TO WHO???

Listen - I have been watching these boards for a while now, and while you are bitching back & forth with each other about "What sounds good" or "What is faked" remember one thing...

What does the listener think? Do you REALLY think the listener - the person who fills out the diary is thinking about "hey - that call was staged" Come on!

If you spent 1/2 your time considering how the listener feels / or how the listener percieves the break, we all would be running better radio.

To the question of faking the call, if they brought the winner in studio, and cut the break that way, there would be no question.

Let's all get off each others back, and get back to the task at hand...MAKING THE LISTENERS HAPPY! Remember, THAT is why you are in the business!

Couldn't have said it better. I've always been bothered by those guys that spend hours listening to the competition. A minute spent worrying about what they're doin is a minute you could have spent making YOUR brand better. The science of radio gets in the way, thank the mid nineties for that.

The thing is, I wasn't trying to discredit you. I was trying to discourage you and anyone else who wants to claim something has happened, but not have anything to back it up. OMG, alllisteningear is Abdul! OMG, Hot 1079 is faking winners again! It gets old really quick. Back it up or back off. I notice your fellow listeners are quick to back you on this one. :eyes roll:

And as for the VOIP thing, all I am saying is that it is possible. I am listening to a This Week in Technology podcast, and while the 4 people who co-host the show aren't in the same area code, they all sound pretty good, and it is all over the internet. Not likely, just possible.

PS... just looking back on your old posts, you sure do have it hard for Hot 1079. You were the one who said the contest was faked before: http://www.radio-info.com/mods/board?Board=indiana&Post=416256&page=

I'd hate to see what they did to you.

Re: SOUNDS GOOD TO WHO???

EVV,

Thank you.

I've said it 1,000,000 times. This is radio, not a cure for cancer. If it were a cure for cancer a whole lot more people would have died because the good ones would have spent the last 2 1/2 minutes perfecting their bit rather than hitting on the 14-year-old on the phone. Please join me programming in a large market some day.

I was in the Ft. Wayne area today, and I decided to try and listen to Hot 1079 while I was there. After one song, I heard one of the $1000 winners in a commercial. Didn't sound faked to me. I switched after that, I just can't get into the format. But it sounded legal to me.
