another FM spanish station in Columubs?

From Sundays Dispatch 10/15/06

Now, the market is "exploding as more businesses see the market potential and are saying, ‘I want to get a part of that business; how can I do it?’ " said Luis Orozco, general manager and part owner of WXOL (1550 AM). The Spanish-language radio station, also know as RadioSol, started as a two-hour show on WVKO (1580 AM) two years ago.

It now has its own studios and radio signal, with revenue projections of more than $1 million this year. It plans to add an FM signal by the end of the year, he said.

Re: another FM spanish station in Columbus?

I thought that non-comm looked like it was run by yet another religious broadcaster.
Maybe they are betting on getting 103.1 in a bankruptcy sale.

Speaking of WXOL, they went to all that trouble to get a major mod approved to move to Westerville and increase power, and then let it expire (expired Jan/05). Guess they didn't have the $ at the time to get it built.

WHKC 91.5 is 1/3rd owned by Rob Case:

ROBERT C. CASAGRANDE, THE PROPOSED TRANSFEREE, IS PRESIDENT, TREASURER, DIRECTOR AND 33.3% OWNER OF NONCOMMERCIAL ENTITY CHRISTIAN BROADCASTING SERVICES, INC., THE PERMITTEE OF NONCOMMERCIAL RADIO STATION WHKC-FM (10929) AT COLUMBUS, OHIO.

I wonder if it had anything to do with that being about the time Rob Case took over the station from his mom (?). I can't imagine it got lost in the shuffle but maybe they had different priorities or like you mentioned... different financial abilities to get it done.

CBusDave, I looked up the corp. on the Secretary of States web site. The filing for CHRISTIAN BROADCASTING SERVICES is in a hold status and expired Dec 14, 2005. It’s kind of interesting, a Christian corp. that let a legal parameter lapse.

I've only been in Cols. since 1990, but the name Rob Case sounds familiar. I can't place him.

JB:

You are correct. Rob Case owned 105-7 and 107.1 when they did "The Arrow"
format, and I also believe the hybrid CHR "Hot 105" also "The Power Pig"...all previous incantations of the station.

Yep...and, briefly, Kiss FM (after Hot, before Arrow).

I think he may have also been involved with Mark Litton (an old WBBY alum) in building the original 103.1 station which was known as WWWJ and llicensed to Johnstown "back in the day".
