Another format change in Lubbock

This is a pretty boring format change that no one will care about but this board has been quiet lately so I thought I'd just bring it up.

Looks like 107.3, 94.1, 99.1 is now playing Spanish music.

This puts the Spanish station number to 8 in this market if you include the translators.

*YAWN*

"God's Country's" facebook status:

"Well...I can't believe that we're having to make this announcement, but God's Country will be going off the air on November 1st. The change is due to a lack of financial support for the network. We're very thankful for the friends that we've made and the kindness that many have shown. Would you please remember our staff in your prayers as we begin to seek a new direction."

not much of a surprise.

The report wouldn't be such a "yawn" if we had more information on the format. Does it add a new format to the area? There are an infinite variety of music-intensvie Spanish language formats. Is it local or network? Who is the operator?

I honestly have no clue.

It has had Christian programming on it for years...it might be a religious spanish station...similar to what 105.7 is now. Whether it is local or not, I am unsure.

And it is kind of a yawn because we are getting yet another Spanish station in this market.

I know we are a 5 to 6 hour drive away from the border, making Spanish programmed stations important in this market, but do we really need 8 Spanish stations up here (or 6 if you don't count the translators on 94.1 and 99.1)?

Found it!

And the discussion in the Religious forum:
http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=178431.0

The new owner is Spanish Christian operator Radio Nueva Vida (New Life).

IT could be worse though. Some of the stations turned back into K-Love and Air 1 where Air 1 and K love stations already exist. I'd rather have another Spanish Christian station then waste the frequency on another Air 1 or K love station.

Sad to see the format go. It was unique. I heard some great country songs on that station that I have never heard before. It was interesting to see a Christian branded radio station play mainstream country that could be tied to a religious message. I guess they just could not raise enough money to keep the format going.

Pretty much confirms what I've suspected for awhile...

God doesn't listen to the radio...

;D

Doesn't sound like anything local. According to their web site they originate out of California. On their home page they're promoting appearances by their personalities at a California church. Sounds like they're a direct competitor of Paulino Bernal's Nueva Radio Cristiana network.
