Another Group Trying to Seduce Titans for Radio?

http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/a...want-citadel-to-decide-on-radio-d?ref=sitemap

So what's the story at the above link really about? It reads like another radio group is whispering sweet somethings in the Titans' ear, possibly suggesting that Citadel's bankruptcy might keep them from meeting payments, or that games might be pre-empted by the Zone's heavy schedule. Citadel needs to end this one very quickly, before the Titans start believing rumors from the Nashville cluster's competitors. I certainly hope local management is dragging their feet, because it sure sounded as though they had even bigger plans for Titans game days and more on the Zone. Citadel's done very well for the Titans up until now; I can't see any other group in town doing them any better.

They might as well hand the Titans to Cumulus owned WRQQ so can they flip to sports. They already have some Predators games, Sprint Cup from MRN/PRN and they just got Vanderbilt. Who knows, they could add Fox Sports Radio and bring my man Jim Rome back on the air in Nashville.

Sure - what's another Crumulus lawsuit in the mix of their disaster on the Row? While it makes sense that they're building a sports ship outta 97.1, but we know it will sink cause it always does. Won't stop 'em from trying. The Fan at 50kw? 1.2 instead of 0.8 at 106.7.

"The Fan" @ 106.7 really, pardon the pun, blew... I doubt second time will be a charm...

Now, Clear Channel, I could see receiving the Titans Radio rights, maybe air them on WNRQ or WLAC or both... Would they touch WSIX and put the Titans on there? They seemed to work so well on WKDF...

Clear Channel didn't want UT any longer for WLAC, so I doubt they'd want the Titans. The Radio-Info article was more clear that this isn't really about another station or group.

Don't forget about WWTN in the mix...they were at their best when they had sports following Ramsey. Could easily flip WRQQ to sports and broadcast the games on the big 100k stick. With Nashville becoming PPM later this year and the reports sowing how well sports are performing there will be people lining up to make a play on the rights here.

Nationally this story will be followed as it might set a precedent with Citadel and it's rights in other markets. People are watching this one closely.

Sorry to be so unimformed, but what is PPM?

Thanks

PPM is the latest Arbitron method: no more diarys, the listener wears (or carries) a small device that decodes
data from a station's signal. I believe Nashville stations are already encoding, and the market goes live in August.
IIRC "PPM" stands for portable people meter. Since my explanation is fuzzy...try this link:

It always amazes me how the majority of the posters here are always calling for WRQQ to switch to this format or that format, yet when WRQQ does switch to the format everyone is calling for, they complain about the new format or how Cumulus is handling the new format. Back when Oldies 96.3 switched to Jack-FM, a lot of posters starting calling for WRQQ to switch to Oldies, yet when they did switched to oldies, they complained because it wasn't as good Oldies 96.3. Then they started posting that Nashville needs a Classic Hits station, yet when WRQQ switched from oldies to Classic Hits, the same posters that kept calling for a Classic Hits station were the first to complain about how WRQQ was doing Claissic Hits. So what make people think that if WRQQ switches to Sports Talk, the same one calling for a switch to Sports will be the FIRST ONES to COMPLAIN about WRQQ and Cumulus is doing All Sports? And since Cumulus did such a OUTSTANDING JOB with 106.7 The Fan, what makes you think that Cumulus will do ANY BETTER SPORTS TALK on 97.1?

That's because CumuLESS has never done anything right! It isn't us; it's them! Face it, 97.1 is a doomed frequency. They might as well sign it off the air! ::)

I actually think you both are saying the same thing...just on two different frequencies....

I think the worst part about what has happened on 97.1 over the years is that some clown
has flip-flopped the music monthly and never given the thing a chance to settle in and prove
itself. There were a FEW times as Hot AC and as some type of Rock that the damn thing actually
sounded incredible musically. But, it lasted for only a few weeks. Like WKOS in the late 70's and
early 80's. Then someone at "play it safe and stupid" put more crap that has been driven into the
ground twenty years ago (and nobody liked then) back on...and you have what you have had for
a decade. A FAILURE. How hard is it???
