Another hard earned vacation Howard.....

Turned on Howard 100 this week, and he's off again. No wonder Sirius cant roll a good profit, they are over paying a "has been" jock 100's of millions of dollars to take half the year off.

Dumped Sirius for that very reason. It wasn't enough to be working a four day work week with tons of vacation; he needed even more time off. I consider it an insult to his listeners and if he's really that miserable working, he should consider retiring.

and it appears still on vacatioon this week. At first i assumed they were off Monday due to weather, but it was still best of today. Getting old.

I saw the calendar that O&A posted that reportedly shows his vacation schedule. WOW. Only 140 new shows a year. The post i read said O&A were told to not talk about it anymore. Huge Howard fan, but....

Can I stick up for Howard?

First I am a big fan. He may not be working as hard at age 59 as he did in his earlier years but his show is still very funny to me. I can't hear everything he does for 4.5 hours Mon thru Wed... (or Thursday some weeks). So I record a lot of it and listen back when I am driving, exercising, etc.

I'm backed up by more than a month of shows I haven't heard yet. So when he goes on vacation, it only gives me a chance to catch up on what I haven't heard so far.

I can understand if you're just a casual listener and you want a fresh show every morning as you commute to work or whatever. But I'm sure you're only hearing a small chunk of that day's broadcast. So for casual listeners, why don't the replays the rest of the week work for you? Do you really hit material you've already heard when you tune in Fridays and some Thursdays? If Howard is on vacation, isn't there programming on the other 100+ channels of interest to you... a chance to hear some other talk or music that you skip when Howard is live?

When Howard joined Sirius, I did the math and realized it would make a lot more sense for me, a big Stern fan, to pay the $499 for a Lifetime Subscription and never pay the $12 per month. After 41 months, about 3 and a half years, I've made back the $499 vs. $12 monthly subscription fees (or now $14... although if you negotiate with the Sirius/XM operator, I've heard you don't have to pay the full rate, especially if you threaten to quit). But I like the other channels enough that even if Stern had not re-upped for another 5 years, I still would enjoy the service and think it was worth the $499.

I have been listening to Stern since he first started on the now de-funked 94 WYSP in Philly some 20 years ago. I am also a huge fan, what bothers me, is he is making 400 million a year or about $2,000 a minute to entertain. Then Siruis always cries poor, they need to rasie rates, there loosing money etc etc etc. When Stern calls it quits at the end of his contract, I will also stay with Siruis, I do really enjoy the rest of the service as well. It is just the thought behind it, a three day work week, and only about 4 hours a day. It is amazing what we Americans are willing to pay for entertainment, but not fire fighters, police, miliary etc that puts there lives on the line every day.

Are you all indirectly telling me that his cast of characters/supporting cast aren't talented enough to pinch hit live on occasion?

Doesn't he pay his supporting cast as his employees, therefore cutting into the amount that is his take-home pay?

I heard he may be ramping up for a gig as a judge on "Dancing With The Stars", or some such drivel.

Too tired to work a full week for his paying subscribers, but plenty of energy to be a judge on Americas Got Talent.

didn`t johnny carson also take a lot of vacation days?

the earlier poster made a very valid point.how stern won`t do a full schedule on satalite radio but has time for the network tv show.

i think that is what bothers many people.
