While checking out Dipl
rg I found these scans of the Album de la Radio.
http://diplo.org/album/us/album_us.htm
Only 5 stations in all of PR in 1940, a afaaaaaar cry from the 100+ (AM & FM) there are now.
http://diplo.org/album/us/album1_us.htm
The 2nd. edition show more stations. 23 in fact
http://diplo.org/album/us/album10_us.htm
Most of these stations still exist to this day (WITA is now WQII. WEMB was shut down when El Mundo Broadcasting purchased WKAQ) There are other stations whose calls I don't recognize: whatever happened to those?
Also: Seems that the 1941 NARBA treaty didn't apply to Puerto Rico
(http://members.aol.com/jeff560/1946am.html)
To wit:
580 WIAC (now on 740)
620 WKAQ (now on 580)
990 WPRA (still there)
1230 WKVM (originally from Arecibo, now on 810 San Juan)
1320 WNEL (originally from San Juan, now on 1430 Caguas)
1370 WPAB (now on 550)
1400 WAEL (now on 600)
1420 WPRP (now on 910; 1420 later became WEUC and is now WUKQ)
No mention of WAPA, WKJB or WORA though. (I got WAEL's old freq. from the Diplo.org site.)
When did the Puerto Rican AM stations move to the frequencies they now occupy?
And when did FM broadcasting begin in PR?
Thanks in advance.
