Another Home Shopping Network is Gone

Worldwide Shopping Source (WSS) has folded. I'm not sure how many stations were carrying it, but we had about 72 hours of notice that something was going on. This afternoon, their website at http://www.shoppingsource.com has disappeared.

Wednesday (July 12), I arrived to work at 6:00am to discover that they had been replaced by infomercials. Later that morning, I was informed that the distributor intends to air infomercials on the channel 24/7, but WILL honor existing contracts which, for us, run until the end of the year.

I'm not exactly happy with the all-night fare, but for now as long as they're paying for the time we'll keep them.

Later...

If this keeps hapening...how am I going to manage to waste my disposable income while watching tv? Oh wait.....that's not a problem.

GOOD, we don't need so many damn frickin shopping channels.

by the way matt, that website didn't work.. or rather, didn't go to any website..

That explains why COX Cable of Connecticut dumped the network last week. From April 1, 2005 until March 2006 it was airing 139 hours/week on COX 96. Then from March 2006 and July 2006 they cut it to airing just 11PM-1PM. They began running the TVSS Infomerical Network in the off times, aside from the blocks leased out to OTB. Then last week the TVSS Infomercial Network resumed 24/7 aside from the blocks leased out to OTB. TVSS had aired on COX 96 24/7 prior to them picking World Wide Shopping Source on April 1, 2005.

Too bad they went under. A lot of "home shopping" veterans worked there.

Carmella - She worked at CVN and later helped launch ValueVision, which is now ShopNBC.

Dan Dennis - He used to work at HSN in Florida. When they interviewed him I think it was on the World Wide Shopping Source Christmas Show, "If I didn't beleive in this network, I never would've moved from Florida to Minnesota".

Tim Temple - He used to host the "Watch Show" on ShopNBC and was the host of the "Watch Show" on World Wide Shopping Source.

Karen Conneley - She used to work at ShopNBC.

Skip Conneley - Like his ex-wife he too used to work at ShopNBC.

Here in Houston, Time Warner Cable had in early June replaced the doomed Shop At Home network with WSS. Now they are running infomercials on that channel, although the EPG still has the WSS listings.

Seems this is the second time in recent years Discount Dan has been associated with a "flash-in-the-pan" shopping channel. I don't remember the name of it, but going from memory there was another channel that started up around Christmas 2004, buying offtime from one of the horse racing channels (I believe TVG). They were on for about a week, then off they went, never to be seen again.

Here in Gulfport MS Cable One carried WSS on Ch. 17. Before that it was TVSS. On the EPG - TV Guide Channel (like Time Warner Cable in Houston) it still has the listings and the channel is now infomercials. This also explains why Cable One doesn't cary it anymore.

Could that one-weeker have been "Verve TV" ?
