Another Huntsville AM gets FM translator

I just saw this. It seems WEUP 1700am will be getting an FM translator. W234BB, originally 94.7 licensed to Moores Mill, is listed as simulcasting WEUP 1700am. It has a construction permit to move tower sight to Monte Sano Mtn and change frequencies to 94.5 that was granted back in February of this year. There is a new application on file as of the 15th of this month to move the tower sight again to 1700's current tower at WEUP studios on Jordan lane. It carries an increase of power to 250 watts, but at only a 75m height above the ground and 0m HAAT the signal still won't be that big. It would probably cover the areas where the gospel listeners are better though.
Here is the 60 dBu coverage map from the FCC for the CP: http://maps.google.com/?q=http://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/contourplot.kml?gmap=2%26appid=1409977%26call=W234BB%26freq=94.5%26contour=60%26city=MOORES_MILL%26state=AL

WCKA-AM in Jacksonville has a translator at 94.3 that effectively kills WJOX for the surrounding area.

It's true. If the translator keeps any listener from getting a regular FM station, it has to either fix the listener's problem to his satisfaction, re-engineer the signal, or go dark. Where the listener's location and the station's primary signal contour aren't considered when such a complaint is filed.

Well, there goes any hope of Huntsville listeners continuing to listen to WJOX through the static.

Complain.

Apparently you can get it taken off the air even though Huntsville is outside WJOX's primary coverage area. It happened in NYC and Detroit.

if that's the case I want W293AH killed! I want KZ 106 back, where it used to go all the way to Athens, WAY-FM can keep their 99.5 translator, i have no intentions of ever listening to WZRR again after last night, lol.

I believe WEUP-AM can benefit from having a FM translator for the urban gospel format. AM's need something to keep them afloat these days.

Update: The application to move the translator to WEUP-AMs tower on Jordan Lane and increase power to 250 watts was granted on 1/27/12. That was quick. Still not on the air yet that I have heard.
