Another Iowa - 12/6/2016

I have now completed the trifecta of X-Banders...after five years of trying to get an ID on this one!

1650 - KCNZ Cedar Falls, IA; ID heard u/ KBJD, "1650 the Fan" at 2219 PT 12/6. Stronger a few minutes later with local ads and another 1650 the Fan ID almost completely over Denver at times! NEW #730, 1KW at 1,408 miles.

DX was pretty good last night. Usual Chicago's on 720/780 heard well. Also had KBCV-1570 MO (1561 mi 3KW) with Hope in the Night, // schedule, Rebelde 1620 w/ Tropical music, 1530 WCKY OH with Brother Stair around 2230; also 1510 KCKK CO // stream under KGA.

Audio clip to be posted tonight, Pacific time.

Nice catch. KCNZ was really getting out that night. At 18:30 local time here, it had a fairly solid signal for a while, completely covering the usuals - XEARZ, KBJD and KVSE.

How about KCJJ on 1630? They were the first X-bander DX I could hear in Atlanta. With their central location I thought they might have coast to coast coverage. And when they signed on (actually moved frequency) in the late 90's they were AM stereo!

I heard KCNZ this morning about an hour before my local sunrise. Much stronger than KCJJ, which is unusual. Usually its the other way around. The two stations are about 70 miles apart. I'm wondering if this is another case of them "forgetting" to power down. Ooopsie. Either way, its a nice catch. So congrats once again.

Heard KCNZ last night on my PR-D5, barefoot, with mentions of Iowa and Waterloo. Also traces of another English talker, poss. KYHN, but couldn't ID it.

Usually I get static, KBJD, more static, and possibly a couple of the local TIS's.

Second time I've heard KCNZ.

Despite CINA being the regular night time station here in Ottawa (we're in the cancellation zone for CJRS) I get KCNZ fairly often. I remember the day they went on the air. I had no idea that station was coming and noticed there was something with a decent signal between KCJJ and KBGG.
