From the Artful Roger (apologies to OA)--
"WKNR, part 2:
According to the latest Arbitron radio report, the sports station has lost 3,900 weekly overall listeners in recent months."
Not surprising. But wasn't the World's Greatest Program Director (TM) remarking not that long ago that WKNR was GAINING listeners in every book?
Also, this may be proof perfect that merely being the "loyal opposition" in sports talk isn't enough--that you actually have to put forth a decent product, including perhaps real, actual, professional sports club play-by-play, which costs money.
Which leads me to...
"WKNR, part 3:
The station will lose ESPN Radio's morning show - hosted by Golic and Mike Greenberg - when its network affiliate deal expires in October. Word is, WKNR hasn't ruled out hiring its own morning host to replace Golic and Greenberg, rather than simply airing another syndicated show, which is much cheaper."
"Word is"--wonder where that came from? But if you notice, sure WKNR "hasn't ruled out" hiring its own morning host does not necessarily translate to "ruling IN." I'll be be a dark day in the place Salem's other 50kw AM outlet is trying to keep you from before they'll put forth the money to do a live, local morning show on 850. Drennan's experiment is so far in the rear-view.
They're going to need all the money they can get to survive the loss of ESPN. The Fish won't just be a spiritual saver...it may very well be a damn lifeboat if 850 slips under after October.
Wonder of "WGPD (TM)" will put himself on-air in morning drive?
Should I send him an aircheck??? Help out a friend? ;D
