Another "Living Proof, Inc." tidbit

According to All Access, everyone's favorite Christian whipping boy, "Living Proof, Inc." is selling a station in Phoenix to Educational Media Foundation (EMF).

If the controversial station is ever built, could 91.7 Lunenburg become a K-Love affiliate? Together with 91.1 WKMY in Winchendon, EMF would have 100% of the CCM audience in north central Massachusetts.

I read in Scott Fybush's NERW last month that Lunenburg would only be 5 or 600 watts, so I'm guessing it will cover Lunenburg and not much else. From all the publicity I thought this was going to be a big station that would cover Maynard, forcing the high school station off the air. Am I getting this wrong?

630 watts directional.

The 630 watts it's tentatively to be licensed for would cover a lot more than just Lunenberg if they did it right, and unfortunately I think it's possible that they could force WAVM off if they get their way.

Look at how much ground WUMB 91.9 covers with 660 watts. Though it's not a strong signal in a lot of the area, it is heard well beyond Route 128 and out to Route 495 in some areas from their main Quincy transmitter (not including their repeater stations), and a former co-channel Class D high school station WHSR in Winchester lost an FCC battle to them in the early 1980's and went dark.

The same for WMBR 88.1 with 720 watts from Cambridge. It can be heard beyond Route 495 in many areas, and they forced former co-channel Class D WYAJ Lincoln-Sudbury high school up into the commercial band to 97.7 (putting a small hole in WBOT's signal in an area that they don't cover well anyway).

Don't underestimate the potential coverage of FM stations in the 600 to 700 watt range, especially if they utilize a good antenna from a good vantage point.
