Another local person gone

It seems my guess as to who (Krock) would be next to leave Culumus was wrong. Reports say its David Nolin. Shame.

David did all they could ask of him and then some. He's got a home studio and will probably turn out some freelance voice work from there. I've got his e-mail address if anyone needs his talents. One of the best radio minds/voices in the market is now on the sidelines.

Good luck, David! You're a great guy and a terrific broadcaster. In the long run, you'll find that you're better off without Cumulus as so many of us have.

Who?

How about putting the name of the city/market in the subject line, Sparky, so we don't waste time clicking links on subjects some of us don't care about?

Some of us care when ANYONE loses their job in this business, regardless of which station or city ;) .

Steve, Daryll, Ben, thanks for the comments. Yes, it is correct that I have been let go from Cumulus. There are still a number of really top-notch people working there, and I wish nothing but the best for all of them. I can't say that I am shocked at all that this happened. It's been a tough couple of years for corporate radio, as we all know. And I don't think the "other shoe" has dropped yet.

And yes, I am actively seeking my next challenge. I do have a studio at home, so I am available for voiceover work. If I can be of service, please feel free to contact me at david (dot) nolin (at) att (dot) net.

Thanks again.

David:
Lord knows we've sparred a little but I hate seeing a man lose his job- especially someone who worked his bottom off. Thankfully you're in audio production so you aren't sitting on your rump.

The best of luck to you!

Thanks KT.

Our sparring has generally been good-natured, so have no qualms about that. We may look at things from different sides of the window at times, but we both agree that the fun has, for the most part, been extracted from radio by the corporate bean-counters who are scared to death to take a chance on anything. And taking away that "fun" element has also eroded the money-making side of the business.

Am I done with radio? Maybe. Maybe not. I hold out hope that the corporate morons will eventually just take what little money they have left and go play on the beaches and golf courses, and people who truly believe that radio can still do what it was originally intended to do... to serve the LOCAL public interest as a public trustee, can come out of hiding. Then those of us who have lived and breathed radio for so long will be able to find a way to put the good stuff back into the business.

And looking at some of the stock prices recently... well, we may not have to wait very long.
