..another lonely post

If my last few posts are any indication, I won't anticipate much response from this one but before I give up completely on this board......

Trends come out tomorrow.....any guess's on who will land where?

Winker, I wish that I could stay on topic, but your first statement here is what raised an eyebrow. Unfortunately, forums like this are suffering from the "Unknown Poster Syndrome" (also known as UPS). What happens, as in most forums, is a few posters who hide behind names like bigfatdeejay, #1radioGoon and HugeHeadNoBrain come here to write things that they would never have the guts to say to anyone's face. Consequently, most of the radio pros who come to this forum just lurk. I know of several people in the business who come here during their workdays to have a few laughs (I know you guys just cracked up over the HughHeadNoBrain thing, didn't you?). Others would simply rather not be attacked by an ugly troll after giving a reply. It's too bad; however, just like in life outside the Internet, it's always a few wimpy wingnuts that spoil it for the majority.

As for the trends, I've never been much for the guessing game, but I'm betting there'll be very few surprises. When the election kicks in, watch WHP kick some butt again and keep on kicking until late 2008. But... a monkey could have predicted that, huh? That's why I never get into the ratings speculation game.

Peace.

So I guess it's too late to change my screen name to bigfatdeejay huh?

No, go for it! LOL

I'm leaning towards a name change to HugeHeadNoBrain!

;D

Hey Scooter, I do appreciate what you have to say regarding the lurking of radio professionals on this site but.......
The whole point of "UPS" is so everyone can participate. It doesn't matter who you are, you can post an opinion because you are anonymous. I love it when someone gets all worked up about how much less ones opinion means when there is a screen name attached to it. Suddenly they start screaming about, "at least I post under my real name, blah, blah blah"...hey, that's good for you or bad for you depending on what you just posted, but it doesn't give your post anymore truth to it. It just means that you either don't care or your not too bright.

(just for the record, this isn't directed at you Scooter, you seem like a nice guy. It's just to make a point on anonymity)

The folks that run this board give you the option to be incognito so there CAN be a free flow of exchange.
I "hide" behind a name and I don't consider myself a "wimpy wingnut" spoiling it for everyone else and I also don't mind a few ugly trolls attacking me for a reply....I'm just trying to get a discussion going on an internet radio board that is here for discussing radio.

Hey, by the way, I wasn't aiming my points about anonymity at you or anyone in particular. My problem with "some" anonymous posters is that they tend to let it bring out the ugliest sides of themselves, not you winker or any one in particular. Unfortunately, in every forum there are a few people who use their anonymity as a mask to say things that they would never have the guts to say without the benefit of anonymity. This problem with forums is without a doubt, in my mind, the main reason most people do not post. My wife would be a prime example; she reads, but refuses to post because she feels there are too many mean-spirited people in most forums. In her words, we already have to deal with plenty of nasty people in the real world, why subject ourselves to more of it on the Internet.

Scoot,

UPS is everywhere. Even Pennlive.com ;-) But then again, I haven't seen any nasty posts on Pennlive.... ;D

I know that, and I kind of implied it. The dreaded UPS! [mx: horror organ stabs] Pennlive.com is actually one of the forums my wife is referring to when she talks about it.

Yeah, not to go too far off topic and hijack Wink's thread, but it does get nasty on Pennlive!

Even well moderated sites have their trolls. Unfortunately, that is primarily what radio broadcasting is about... being friends one minute and then stabbing 'em in the back the next. Kinda odd how that works out. :-X

To answer Wink's question about trends: I see Wink 104 continuing to take the lead. Sure enough, most listeners enjoy the morning show and the daytime talent. Mix 106.7 really put some pressure on them and Wink went back to "10 in a row" to keep it's female audience.

I think WSOX really kept some of it's listeners by introducing their "Vacation a Day" promotion over the summer. Although, the promotion was a bit deceiving. What can you expect with that many winners though? (40)

The last time I checked, a vacation included more than a 2-day stay at a hotel and a $50 gas card. But that's just me. 8)

The River isn't changing and that will prove very good for them. As long as they continue to play that "Hey There Delilah" song, they'll be ok.

Hopefully we'll be hearing more about WXPN and their commitment to Central PA in the next few months.
