Most of the popular Variety Hits stations are primarily rock based with some pop and rhythmic stuff as the spice. I agree the playlist is more expansive, but there's still more rock leaning Hot AC stuff in the mix than anything else.

Actually, most Jacks have about 1000-1200 titles rotating at any one time and many of those songs are in lunar rotations. About half of those titles rotate fairly quickly, making it only slightly better than a typical Hot AC or Classic Rocker.

If CC thought they could make more money with Jack than the formats currently on those frequencies, they'd blow one of them up in a heartbeat. Between WTRY and WRVE, they have the "retro pop/rock" angle covered in the market. At this point they don't need to do it.

I'm sure they could but the question is who, and will they be willing to spend the money for the Jack name or clone it themselves. Considering it's Regent and Pamal we're talking about, the cheap clone is more likely.
Also, who is "a lot of people?" My guess is most Albany radio listeners don't know what a Jack-FM is or what kind of music they play.

Again, will either company spend the money to do it right? Including promoting it. I don't think so at the moment. Maybe if the format continues to take off someone will try it.

I understand you want the format, but up to this point there doesn't seem to be a glaring need for it in Albany.

Again, you want Jack, but will Regent or Pamal pay for Jack? My guess is that Albany will get a clone when the market is ready for a Variety Hits station.

I don't think CC will be hitting the panic button. WRVE, like them or not, has a ton of heritage and is pretty highly rated. They won't be too pulsed by a clone on a weaker Pamal or Regent signal, which is what the market will probably get.
