Another MOR station is streaming

Another MOR station is streaming: WBDK FM 96.7 in Algoma, Wisconsin. They not only play a wide variety of music of the last 50 years, but they also feature news 13 times a day.<P ID="signature">______________

They have a link that says they are streaming but no stream this morning.
Here's the audio link in case they start up again.

"Cool Night" by Paul Davis into "Still" by the Commodores??

I like what I hear so far! :)

Based on the awesome success WKLI/Albany is enjoying with MOR, it amazes me that more stations don't jump on this format. It is fan-tas-tic!

Thanks for the link.

From "Mr. Sandman" into "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad".... this is good stuff!

And my own little FM transmitter happens to be on 96.7 FM in mono... so it makes WBDK's webcast a great choice to rebroadcast when I'm not doing my own programming.

Great station (WBDK)/WDUV question...

Thanks for the information on WBDK, Ivan! Good find! I am really enjoying this smooth, well-executed format. I have written the PD of the station to tell her what a great job she's doing!

Now, to WDUV in Tampa, FL. I have listened to this station's stream for a long time and have long admired their awesome ratings. However, I just looked at their 24 hour playlist and saw things on it like "Love Me Do" by The Beatles and "Old Man" Neil Young. Those are good songs, but they do not fit the EASY LISTENING mold, IMHO. Have any of you noticed these changes at WDUV? I noticed a comment on the Tampa board, recently, saying that 'DUV has added more standards since the local standards AM flipped to talk. However, I am seeing oldies and even 'soft' classic rock...what's that all about?

I don't see any problem with playing some of the lighter Beatles songs as part of an Easy Listening format. I.e., "And I Love Her", "Because", "I'll Follow The Sun", "Let It Be", "Michelle", "Something", "Sun King", "'Till There Was You", and of course "Yesterday".

I have a tape of Boston's 740 WJIB from back in their Easy Listening days, and after a bunch of Beautiful Music-type instrumentals, Bob Bittner (WJIB's owner/operator) cued up "Nowhere Man". And that's fine as well -- there's nothing wrong with an Easy Listening station that gets your foot tapping a little bit, just as long as it doesn't agitate you.

Re: Great station (WBDK)/WDUV question...

Agreed! My station plays 'Michelle', 'And I Love Her', 'Yesterday', and the like. 'Love Me Do' just doesn't fit that 'light' music mold. Just opinion here. I can actually see 'Nowhere Man' working, but songs like "Love Me Do" sound like 'rock' oldies to me. I am 35...so, I am not basing this opinion on the standpoint of a 65-plus radio listener.

The post about DUV adding more standards is just untrue. They do seem to be moving (however slow) toward being a gold-based AC, but when you think about it, "Love Me Do" is, what, 41 years old? Even though it wasn't considered "easy" then, I think it fits in and is certainly easier than "I Am The Walrus" or something like that. After all, they are trying to improve their 25-54 numbers so it's natural that they would try to include some baby-boomer music, especially since the market doesn't have a tradional oldies station any more, except for the flea-powered WJQB 106.3 which airs Scott Shannon's format.

Crossing the Agitation Line

I get a kick out of a current TV commercial airing in the Philadelphia area for AC station WBEB (B101). It's a computer-animated scene in an office of cubicles. As the view zooms in around the room, it shows the workers at their desks bopping around to typical songs heard on B101. As the commercial ends, the workers actually stand up and start dancing in their cubicles to some disco tune.

Your listen-to-at-work station?? Needless to say, the commercial works for me and I'd like to thank them for the warning. So, it's not on in MY office!

You might have been listening for a long time, but obviously not close enough. WDUV has long played that song among others considered even more uptempo.

Re: Crossing the Agitation Line

Crossing the agitation line...good way to put it, Blue! Yes, 'Love Me Do' is a 41 year old song, and it IS lighter than 'I Am The Walrus'. However, it (just opinion talking here) does not fit the 'easy', 'relaxing', 'soft' sound. I CAN more easily see 'Love Me Do' on a standards station than I can on an EZ station. Why? The standards and/or oldies stations are NOSTALGIA stations. The music is intended to evoke memories. EASY LISTENING is a texture-based format. I don't know it all, but our station plays, "Our House" by Crosby, Stills, and Nash (it's playing as I type this). To me, it fits the 'easy' mold...no heavy precussion, no heavy electric guitars. "Love Me Do", though a big hit and a good early-60's nostalgia tune is not exactly, 'relaxing' music. TO ME, it crosses the agitation line, which Blue speaks of (just in a different way).
