Another Morning Jock hits the trails...

So after FINALLY finding a good morning show that I like after Gerry left (other than McFly), Brant goes and calls it quits. If you guys haven't ever checked out "Mornings with Brant" on WayFM, it's really a great show (so is the afternoon show). Apparently though 31,000+ facebook fans aren't enough for him to want to stay on the air =/.

Don't despair, Brant's going to Air 1. And maybe, just one of those Christian FMs that are planning to move closer in to Nashville might just program Air 1.

The afternoon show on WAY's not too bad, Wally's just a bit too yakety for me. Brant has run a tighter ship.

The day the number of facebook fans has any real leverage in the real world is the day Mr. Arbitron might as well toss his people meters on the scrap heap.

He does a good job yes. But even if he'd had 150,000 facebook fans, doing something other than a show on a local station isn't ever as appealing as a national show.

For a not for profit station there are pay scale limits, and honestly in today's world of radio, to advertising time buyers, anybody not in the top 5 of a given category falls into the "all others" catergory. Way has had enough time to get established but probably won't be that much further along in growth a year from now.

They should be flattered they grew a talent that a network would steal. But for them it's more about the music anyway. They'll be fine. He'll be fine.
It's one non-com station that probably won't change ownership hands anytime soon.

Wasn't Brant doing his show from Florida?

Yes, so not officially a Nashville jock, but the only one I really care for in the mornings since KDF plays so many commercials.

How does internet streaming effect arbitron ratings? I wouldn't be surprised if more people streamed Way during the day at work than actually listened to it over the airwaves. I think they've reached their peak audience with their current signal that doesn't even cover all of Davidson County.

A PPM monitor would pick up the internet signal and a diary record is supposed to be reflected but internet listening isn't nearly as big as many think.
Interesting choice of stations. Way fm and KDF. Way is a smaller audience and aims for a younger target like Air 1. It generally pulls much more male than female audience. You'll enjoy him on streaming. I don't see EMF pushing that side as much as Klove and if Fish weren't so strong here Klove would probably have pursued the Trevecca signal Bott got.
Hard to know how big the Air 1 audience will get but this is market #44, Way is not a city wide signal nor a mass appeal format. I'm sure it took him maybe 3 seconds to make this decision.

Hey, onetake, WAY is a national network. Brant's show originates/originated from Fort Myers, home of the first WAY station.

So if what you're saying is right, my podcasts could probably get rated if someone if a PPM holds their little machine up to their computer speakers or headphones and plays one of my shows at http://fiveminutestogo.podomatic.com (that's my shameless plug, by the way...get it? Way? Bueller...Bueller...?).

So could everybody with a Nashville-based podcast like me be counted then? It would be cool for an "out of work" jock to get some "points on the big board", so head over to http://fiveminutestogo.podomatic.com and have your PPM ready! Heck, just go over there anyway to help me boost my rating among Podomatic users...

No. No. No. NO. NO. NO.

Not all internet feeds of terrestrial stations--in fact, I would say very few--air the encoded PPM signals. It depends on how each individual station's internet feed is wired. It depends if the feed comes from a source that is pre-PPM encoder or post-PPM encoder. It would be beneficial to the station to have the feed come post-PPM so you can take advantage of getting PPM numbers from your web feed, but every station's setup is different.

And, no, SoundsandSports, PPM decoders only recognize encoded tones coming from a specific piece of Arbitron PPM hardware. It's not like the Shazam app that magically recognizes audio.

Maybe in a few years, Shazam could be the next step in PPM ratings...it would be similar to how iTunes figures into record sales...

Brant's show came from WEST PALM.... Jeff Taylor does a local morning show here in Fort Myers/Naples... Way's numbers are actually DOWN... Their signal is not as bad as you think.. It's not 100kw and the big boys in Nash-Vegas, but 'NAZ has a small footprint and Salem/Fish has to use two "A's" to cover it... Way is losing him to more cash across the format pond.. That's all.. Best to him.... Did you know, that Way-Fm Lousiville, has split the simulcast of 105.9 (who they bought from Salem and was called "The River" in those days) and 93.9 that they bought from Cumulus (who moved it in from Seymour and changed from 93.7 B Class to 93.9 A Class)? Way got rid of their first signal (104.3 in Charlestown to an urban format and did not cover the soutwest part of Louisville, due to the shortspacing with Hardinsburg, KY's 104.3)..... Now, 105.9 is SHINE-FM and is CCM-AC with programming from...........SALEM! :)))

Thanks, Skipper T., for the clarification. Totally forgot about Jeff for a moment...
