Another Move-in for the columbus market

An application has been filed to move WNKO 101.7 to New Albany onto the WCVO tower, putting out 5.8kw that should give the a decent signal over most of Columbus, but not much over in Newark where they had been

I don't have a problem with Class-B move ins ... these signals are wasted out in BFE. But I do have a problem with some crap Class-A abandoning places like Newark to squat here. Class-A's belong in the Newarks of the world ... so they are losing service that should be theirs. But by moving to Columbus, all they accomplish is crapping up the airwaves with another crap signal ... and further diluting the market.

What good is this for Columbus or Newark? Certainly 101.7 leaving that area would be detrimental to an area that's populated enough to support four stations (both WCLTs, WHTH and Kool). Is the Franks family selling the station?

The property on which WCVO's tower sits has been sold and Les Wexner wants it out of his back yard. Last I heard, they were putting up a new tower near Schleppi Road. The station offices and studios are moving as well.

I think the studios will be at Easton. Interesting about NKO on the tower, CVO must need money

could Kool 101.7 wnko move into columbus, but keep there format of "Kool Oldies" to replace the loss of alot of oldies on B1079? just a thought.

They 'could' but the key is WOULD they. Their signal will reach more of Columbus than WODB's Class A so would it be likely they will keep oldies or go for a more "money making" format. The likely hood is they will go with what will bring them the most profit. Only time will tell though.

My guess is the changes at CVO are due to streamlining and getting rid of non esential people for the new direction they are going. This is fundraising week for them

The new 'CVO studios will be near Market Street in New Albany. Their reasons for all the personell changes over the past couple of years isn't all that noble. They've been mostly political in nature.

Didn't know about the studios, but heard about the nature of the changes "around"

CVO's doing ok on money. They've got a successful business/ministry model going. BTW, congrats to them for being up for the GMA station of the year award.

But back to the money....if Wexner is willing to pay millions of dollars just to have them move and it will only improve their situation...why not? Seems like good buisness to me.

Regarding their personell changes...Hello!!! It's radio. Their staff changes aren't any more dramatic than anyone else's from what I've observed.

You wanna talk staff changes? Three words...Clear Channel, Dayton.

Les has been wanting that property and Cross on the tower down since he went into N'All'Banny and making it Lessville.... The studios were starting to crumble... Jericho, I guess.. The money would be great and they can get a state of the art set up, elsewhere... Their ratings are fabulous for a Christian A/C on a commercial frequency and it's the best of times for them.... Go get 'em.. "Skipper T." from the Old Radio-U days... ;D

Les has a proven track record when it comes to buying out property to get rid of the "unsightly" towers in his hood. Some years ago the state of Ohio had a communications site and 360 foot tower on old Rt 161 that was also line of site from Les' place. He acquired a parcel of land out at Rt 310 and Rt 161, made a deal with the state to move their communications site out there in exchange for removing the old site and tower. I was involved in moving some of the equipment to the new site and getting it on line. It was really great to finally have a comm site that actually had air conditioning and heat in the winter!

Columbus has to be winning the mid-major market rim-shotter move in of the decade award.
What the heck kind of programming are they gonna put on these signals?
