Another new Cox translator for Greenville?

As much as I don't care for Russ, I think even he is more talented at keeping the audience engaged than Bob McLain. I do on rare occassion listen to the station even if I don't agree necessarily agree with their views just for grins. And McLain is absolutely atritious as a host making me have more respect for Ralph's time here. Bob is better left off-air as their PD. He has no talent as a host.

I was in the Woodruff Rd area near I-85 and noticed that 97.7 was just flat and not as loud as 98.9, 101.1, 102.5, 93.7, etc., as it typically is. No "punch" like it normally has. Not a big deal, but I just wondered what happened.

I was out and about today again and it did sound noticably poorer. Not sure what's going on.

On my ride home from Greenville I normally start to get a little background static on 97.7. With the audio so much lower, the static is more audible and makes it kinda difficult to listen to. I wonder if this has to do with working on 98.5?

I hope not. At least, hope it's nothing that's going to permanently degrade the signal.

For some reason the past 2 days I have not been able to receive the 94.9 translator signal. Simulcasting the Fountain Inn AM signal. And they have been recently carrying the Neal Boortz program and I believe Clark Howard. Don't know whether this means Cox is preparing to move these programs to 98.5.

Actually, there's a CP for 94.9 to move and relay 1070 WCSZ instead of 1600 WFIS. That may be what's going on. I noticed several weeks ago that I wasn't getting 94.9, but it came back shortly after.

WFISradio.com is reporting that their lease on 94.9 FM in Fountain Inn expired yesterday (8-1-2012).
That leaves them on 1600 AM.

Also, I remember not long ago I was hearing Hangar Radio Z (WHRZ) on 94.9 in East Greenville / Taylors area.
Wonder what happened to that translator. thez.com says they still have a signal on 94.9 in Greenville,
and on 97.7 in Six Mile, but I know the latter definitely is incorrect... :D

They likely knew in advance that they didn't plan on continuing to lease it (thus the paperwork was filed to move the 94.9 translator for 1070 to simulcast with)...I would think they aren't cheap to lease. I have heard Contemporary Christian on 94.9 and 95.7 before in the Greenville area.
thez.com is really outdated - WLFJ and WHRZ have both shed a lot of translators over the past couple of years, including some on that website. The Hangar Radio translators are actually fed via a WLFJ HD channel, as the main signal is an LPFM in Spartanburg.

4 days until the launch of 98.5 FM - it still seems so mysterious. Is "Talk 98.5" official, or a game with Entercom? If not, what will it carry? What kind of launch time is 12pm for a talk station that doesn't have any access to talk shows that start at 12pm? It was 6am at first, which makes more sense for a talk station. Would they be able to carry Neal Boortz and Clark Howard?

The Omnia got zapped and had to be sent in for repair .... on a no-name backup processor.

Well it is Sunday night Aug 5th and the new Talk98.5 translator is on the air. I am listening to Neal Boortz right now. So it appears the talk format speculation is indeed true.

Did I hear correctly on there that they are just relaying WSB? I don't see how that would work. Could be testing material or a tease? Great signal, better than 97.7.

Last check for the night, but it sounds like they've been running the same Neal Boortz episode over and over tonight. They skipped the news break and just went from one segment in to the next last time I listened.

So far they have been rerunning various Neal Boortz programs taped directly from WSB. As of Mon. morning. But we'll see what happens after noon. Clark Howard perhaps? But pleased to hear Boortz.

Finally something other than Boortz!

This local guy they have on there now sounds pretty good.

Sure is giving Russ Cassell hell about his whackjob comments.

Good that they will have a local host, but hopefully they will also continue to carry Boortz as well, as he is Cox most famous and proven talk show host. But I don't think the sole purpose of this station should be to counterattack everything Russ Cassell has to say. Let him do his show, and let Cox do theirs.

Are they looping the same thing over and over again from this guy too?

Edit, 12:05pm and the same loop from the last guy's "hour on the radio" is still going.

ALTERNATIVE is it, X98.5!

First song - Fun. - We Are Young

After the local host wrapped things up, the "PD" came in, said he voted for Obama, and said it was better to just play music..."It's The End Of The World As We Know It" started up with "Planet" spliced in over and over, then some sound effects, and it came on. Great stunt and sign on.
