Another new Houston LPFM granted

This slipped by last week, but the Fourth Angel Broadcasting Network (4ABN) has been granted 99.7 with 9 watts at 30 meters. Transmitter will be near the intersection of Hammerly and Blalock in northwest Houston.

This will catch major grief from co-channel KVST, as that station's signal is quite listenable in NW Houston. Much bigger clash than what KCYB had with KNTE on 101.7.

Google Earth shows the transmitter coordinates as being on the top of what appears to be an apartment building, although there could be some error involved...perhaps a nearby cell tower that doesn't show up well?

Blalock & Hammerly @ 9 watts/30m? Is there a church in that part of Spring Branch affiliated with 4ABN? Hardly see how this will stand a chance with such miniscule power and height, but keep in mind KVST is leaving Conroe and moving farther north into Huntsville. Most of 4ABN's grief is going to be courtesy of Palacios' KROY, in my estimation. I'm afraid someone's going to be highly disappointed with the results, once this one sees the light of day.

KVST filed to move north.....DUMB idea IMPO.....they dont HAVE to move.....and could turn in the CP and stay where they are at....still have not determined why they would want to move....Ben has lost control of the station (though he was not a radio person until he sold his grocery chain and built the original 103.5 KVST in the 90s). His kids, who according to someone who knows the family well, told me they have no radio skills and are total idiots as to operating it. If they think moving the signal back to the original tower is the best idea, they are poorly mistaken...they will lose their city coverage in Conroe...might as well move the studios back to Huntsville (I cannot see the STL making the hop unless they use the current tower to make it past the ridge between Conroe and Willis which would block a single STL path from the current studios in S side of Conroe...and again, makes NO sense whatsoever). A lot of LPFMs are disappointed with the results...they see "FM" and think they should cover like the high power stations....hell, most CB operators (and refrigerators!) run/use more power than a lot of LPFMs. Even the average ham repeater uses more power :)

Bill Buchanan's KSHN is one of the few locally run stations that has been consistent with this signal and operation...even upgraded the processor a few years ago from the old Optimod 8001 and has made great improvements with its audio...the signal of course is stuck where its at (though I am surprised Bill has not tried to move off the former CC Devers tower to the now former Liberman tower, which is now owned by TallTowers, run by former mgmnt of Richland who sold out to ATC who owns the former CC Devers tower and the Liverpool towers with 107.5 and 92.1...got all that?? Good.....now you are as confused as the rest of us ;)

Mike Lout's 107.3 in Jasper could use some audio improvements...I think he filed an app to move to the south side of Jasper with his own tower site (currently leasing on Bergman's site north of Jasper)

carry on.....
