Funny, RW.
Those ancient WBAM airchecks have made their way into the hands of Bluewater staff...and the cannon blasts are being edited for modern-day usage on Bama Country, from what I understand. So, a public thank-you.
As for WACQ, the "Big...uh...ACQ!", I think Randall will build it up just like he built up QSI (now The Eagle in Auburn) and BIL in Tuskegee over the past few years...despite there being no record of an application on those FCC sites, he is working on building up 1130 AM to be a contender.
And it's entirely possible. There is no full-time oldies outlet in Montgomery anymore. WACV-AM 1170 plays good time oldies on nights and weekends, but since WQLD left the airwaves (and its oldies-formatted predecessor, WBAM!), oldies are hard to find in the Capital City.
WACQ's format is local talk in the mornings until 8:00, then straight rock n' roll oldies of 1964-1971 vintage the rest of the day. In Tallassee, WACQ competes with WTLS, which is an all-sports talk station down the road with a longer history in the area, having been run by the same family its entire life.
What is really interesting is that, sometimes, WACQ and WTLS are both in the press box at Tallassee games...which means, a listener is able to hear different versions of the hometown Tallassee Tigers team, depending on which play-by-play announcer you like!
