Another new Oldies station: WQTY

WQTY-93.3 FM in Linton is now Oldies, having flipped to Christmas music in November. For just signing on, seems rather developed. They were formerly simulcasting WWBL 106.5 Washington (ABC Real Country).

Oh, Great! Another Oldies station in that part of the state. WCLS is practically an Oldies station. I heard it today in Indy.

I see that radio owners are being very creative in their approach to programming. Let's do safe and stale radio.

WQTY is owned by the Original Company (Mark and Sandra Lange), who also own WUZR 105.7 Bicknell-Vincennes, which carries ABC's Oldies format. Anyone know whether WQTY is simulcasting WUZR or if WUZR changed formats?

I never really understood the reason for the WWBL-WQTY simulcast. Is the signal for 106.5 that bad up towards Linton? I lived in Vincennes in 1990 and 1991, but only went up to Linton once. I worked for the Langes for a summer, but that was back when they only owned WZDM (106.5 was WRTB back then, too).

The 106.5 Signal is still a rockin' in the Linton area. So far as I know, WUZR is still oldes, but look at the coverage maps of both stations. WUZR misses Terre Haute, but WQTY has it in the 60 DBu range.

The 60 dbu contour actually just makes it to Vincennes, but misses Terre Haute by 7 or 8 miles. But, from my memory, the signal is on par with 104.3, 104.9, and 105.9. Listenable in the car, but probably not so hot in the office.
