Another "Not so Merry" Clear Channel Christmas?

You got to be kidding me - it's almost predictable. Word is CC markets 25 and below, major changes coming within a week. Humbug.

If you've never been let go at this time of the year or had your future placed into doubt at this time of the year, it is a bitter pill to swallow....Best of luck to all CC (and other corporate employees) who are bound to feel some pain now or during Q1. Don't give up. There is life after radio.

Ahhh yes, there is life after radio. I saw the writing on the wall about 10 years ago and took a huge chance by walking away from the biz and earning my MBA. Was completely broke while in school at the age of 42, but soon after finishing landed a new career which nearly tripled my old radio salary. Still miss the biz though... however love having job security.

I don't know if there's such a thing as job security ANYWHERE these days. But I, too, saw the writing on the wall with regards to the commercial radio business a long time ago -- and today I'm having a blast writing some not-so-complimentary passages of my own on those same walls as the host of "Secrets" on 'CRS! Let's put it this way, the heads of the top three U.S. automakers have no corner on corporate stupidity in America. There's plenty of it out there in big-time radioland, too ... and I'm not afraid to say it and play it with the music that proves it.

Is that why there's no ratings as yet?

I don't know, you tell me, since you're One Who Knows! If there's no ratings yet, it might be because we're a non-commercial station, and/or we're low power, and/or I'm on from 8:00 to 9:00 at night, and/or we debuted "Yesterday's Top Secrets" just over two months ago, on October 2. When my hour gets a rating, I would appreciate your letting me know what it is, One Who Knows. Thanks.

Ooooh! Touchy touchy jakej. I see part of this thread moving to Take It Outside! We know you're proud of your secrets thing and hype it anyway you can. We're glad for you that you have a radio home and you can do what you want. While we're proud of you we really don't want to hear about it ALL the time. We get it. We're on the outside looking in, or being threatened with layoffs or we're in radio not happy with not being able to pick songs like you. We totally get it. So please, back to whether clear channel is having any layoffs before Christmas, while you still get to do your thing jakej. We are proud of you and we promise to listen when we can. We won't-can't forget.

I think you've said it well, Tasha. Jake: I can appreciate you've only been on the air 2 months, and you're only on for an hour, and you're on a low powered FM. You are on the air. I respect you for that.

But, if you're going to attempt to "play with the big boys" and insist that you're ideas are right...be prepared for comparisons to the big boys. Welcome to radio.

Speaking of the Big Boys...any news of the impending doomgloom of CC? layoffs usually come on fridays....right before Christmas!

I wonder who will get the pink slip first on WTVN, Joel or Corby? They wouldn't dare mess with Bob Connors.

Has it really come to this?!?!
I can't see what good is achieved by using this board to speculate about someone losing their livelihood. It seems a bit crass, but hey...I guess that's just me.

Bob Connors has lived through several ownership changes and all the management changes at WTVN over the years. BC is liked in this community. He is not going anywhere if TVN can help it.

According to him, his Saturday morning four hour radio talk show block is the strongest four hours east of the Mississippi. Click here and go to the December 6, 2008 show, seconded hour to hear B.C. mention how strong
his Saturday morning radio talk show is.

Well this is CC we are talking about. They would rather have some c listed conservative talker than a expensive local host.

610's local content is down to the bare minimum. no local news after 7pm. bc, riley and corby are the only local on air talent. pare it down any further and they'll have another wyts, just with a better signal. maybe they could call it "big bird". so sad. once upon a time it was the full service giant.

That should be an obvious opening for any station that is thinking about changing formats or expanding on an existing News format. They could quickly staff up, and take advantage of 610's lack of staff and local content. Nothing like taking the ball and running with it when the competition is down and out. ;)

Agreed. But that takes money...and lots of it.

Someone would have to have very deep pockets and a great metro signal to compete with WTVN-AM radio.
