Another odd game show contestant thread

Did anyone catch this morning's Price Is Right? A late 20s early 30s woman named Star Player (yes that was her real name) was called down to contestant's row and won the keyboard that was up for bids, then won "One Right Price" on stage before going over a dollar on contestant's row...Apparently she wasn't a "star player" after all, otherwise she would have both showcases with a less than $250 difference without going over, the $25,000 bonus on the wheel for hitting exactly $1.00, and the perfect One Bid bonus of $500.

My questions to the class:

A. Where do they find these people?!!!, especially the "420 Girl", and Steven Urkel from a while back...

B. Has there ever been someone to get a Perfect One Bid, Pricing Game win, max bonus on the "big wheel", and both showcases all in one show?

I don't know where these people come from, but it would seem there have been more and more of them in recent years, including when Bob Barker was still hosting.

I haven't watched TPIR in a very long time now. Too many dumb contestants.

Good question...I would guess there hasn't been 1 to do ALL of those, but a fan site like golden-road.net might have someone who knows more. If they did get someone on there that did everything just right like that, it would almost smack of a performance like the guy that figured out the light/board display combinations on Press Your Luck years ago.

??? "Star Player" ?? ??? :D :D

I second that. Players who don't know how to play the pricing games. Plus it doesn't help all this fancy desinger stuff I have no idea what the price is.

'TPIR' needs to die, period. Even before they went after the 'youthful dumbass' demographic, and it was still 'Grandma's favorite game show'(back when Barker still had dark hair, and nobody under 50 ever seemed to play the game), it was a waste of time.
Turning Barker into Johnny Carson for his last few years, and casting him as the 'cool hipster old dude' playing to all the college-dropout bakeheads on Contestants' Row, only exacerbated (duhhh, what's dat word mean, maaan, I'm STONED!!!) the cloying corniness of the show. Now multiply that stupidity by 500 for the Drew Carey era.

Wow, harsh. tell us your REAL opinion! ;D

The key problem with TPIR is that NOBODY knows what the MSRP is anymore. We've all been "discounted" to death over the past decade. In the 70's and 80's, I used to do very well on the pricing games. All of a sudden, I realize that I have no earthly idea of the MSRP of the living room set (who knows if is it a cheap one, moderately priced, or ultra-expensive???)

On the bright side, it's still the best remaining show on daytime TV, when compared to Jerry Springer, Maury, Judge Judy, and whoever else is big these days.

I haven't watched daytime TV in so long I don't even know what's on anymore.

TPIR had one week with only 3 pricing games won out of 30 games in January this year. Back when I first watched back in the late 80s 3 wins in 2 days was a major slump and most shows had 3 or more wins back then.

While I don't think anyone has done all of those, there was a contestant shortly after Carey started hosting who got an exact bid on contestants' row, won the pricing and bid the showcase exactly. However, I don't think he managed to win the $1 on the Showcase Showdown.

His name, by the way, was Terry Kniess, and he had worked in TV prior to going on TPIR. I know he did TV in Waco and was at KSPR 33 in Springfield before eventually landing on WGNX/WGCL 46 in Atlanta.

I think I saw her...I thought they had cracked down on people bidding $420 on Contestant's Row.

There really does seem to be a disconnect on "Price", because even though a good share of the contestants are college age (and I do give Drew credit for giving props to military contestants), most of the commercials are for "old people" stuff like AARP, wheelchairs, and Wilford Brimley's "diabeetus" supplies.
