another one bites the dust- 98.7 earl fm knoxville

it doesn't really matter tho because they already have jack, 98.7 flipped to true oldies channel satellite

OC --- are you referring to Earl or Jack in your post? Jack, FTR, is on two crappy signals. ;D

Seriously, neither Earl or Jack have a huge chance. All three signals are horrible. Citadull took heritage calls WOKI to
a 8kw-er 20 miles outta K-town and basically threw them away. If they do oldies right, and add local, play up the
heritage, etc. they can get a 3.0. It's been so long, sigh, since I worked there that I don't know the 98.7 frequency
well enough to know just what it can acheive, but, playing up the WOKI Oldies duo can give it legs. Hey, out of all of us,
should be celebrating a new Oldies station regardless of pedigree or power. CJ, love ya, as always, but why gloat
over this??? hehehe!

Earl specifically, 'cause it's gone. But Jack has lousy market coverage, too.

WOKI, by going with Shannon's True Oldies, is sending the signal it's Oldies-on-the-cheap and when you consier potential return on investment, it'll probably do enough to survive. I'm not sure it's exactly "celebration" time, when you conisder it's satellite-delivered and on a rimshot signal, though. It is what it is.

I wasn't gloating...just remembering that when EARL came on in Knoxville (after JACK) I wondered why...being second in the market (with a weaker product) is never a good thing.

CJ

Remember that Citadel had been pre-emptively cut off from an anticipated flip of an Oldies station to VH by Clear Channel in Chattanooga earlier in 2005 (GT 107.9 instead went Country.) Apparently in Knoxville they decided being first in didn't matter, perhaps because of the dual signal thing, but obviously Jack won out there. South Central already knew it had a good product based on results from WCJK in Nashville.

The folks in NashVegas are doing a great job. A radio friend from the market was in NYC the other night and said she listens all the time.

CJ

yeah, and them thar ratin's ain't so bad either ... nashjack sounds better skewing younger and giving up on all those tired
classicshits, cj. long live duran duran, coldplay and depeche mode. #1 all over again despite the fact that it plays a bunch
of that weird new wave...it pays to use the element of suspense and suprise////not the same 74 "pre-programmed con-sultant
approved sterile yawnhits...." <----that was for 'Cat! :)

Yeah the Nashville Jack FM (WCJK) is great. I moved to Nashville in April and I wondered what it would be like to hear the station on a regular basis... and it has turned out to be great. No burnout; between Jack FM and Lightning 100, Nashville radio has two of my favorites.
