Another One Bites the Dust

Another lib talk station is flipping formats. In the wake of Jerry Springer's announcement earlier this week to hang up his microphone and put on his dancing shoes, WSAI has decided to drop to lib talk and go with a lineup of consumer, relationship, home, car, garden and financial advice shows. According to the Cincinnatti Enquirer http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061207/ENT/61207013 most will be tape-delayed or reruns, including old WKRC-AM broadcasts by fix-in expert Gary Sullivan, gardener Ron Wilson and auto mechanic Steve Overbeck. Dr. Laura and Dr. Joy Browne will also be in the line-up. The new line-up will start on Monday.

Sounds like a promising vehicle for brokered programming, which has worked for CC (moneywise, at least)
in some other markets...

Can't wait to hear that how-to show from Neal Boortz. On delay, of course.

Clear Channel's really getting desperate.

well, if given the choice between Boortz' 'how- to' and Springer's 'how NOT to' shows, it's a no brainer. ;)

In the immortal words of Johnny Fever

....." booger! "

This has been a rough couple of weeks for lib talk in general and Air America Radio in particular. The bad news is that five stations have dropped lib talk since AAR filed for bankruptcy about a month ago. – WYOS in Binghamton, WSAI in Cincinnati, WXXM in Madison, WSMB in New Orleans, and WKBF in Quad Cities. The good news is that these stations only account for 4.6% of the AAR’s coverage and less than 1% of the lib network’s ratings.

1360 The Source: How-To... get a 0.3

You've got some good shows in there, but having Clark Howard in BOTH drives will kill listenership and the 1-4pm shows don't sound that great. With all the other talk in the market and surely no promotions budget...
