Just seeing on Neil Sperry's website....that the genius management at KRLD....has given him his 180 day notice. Can it get any worse with this group? And what of Neil????

Let the ideas start flowing folks......and see who wins the prize!!!

Neil should do what the Dirt Doctor did; buy the time himself, sell the ads himself, and keep the show on the air.

I cant believe they gave him notice and 180 days at that. Dont they usually just change the lock code on you and have the security guy tell you that you were fired? Neil was one in a million. They dont make quality broadcasters like him anymore.

Sperry has been doing that for years.

Wait, what?
KRLD has so many advertisers they can tell someone who'se buying hours a week to take a hike? Who could they possibly get to pay more money...Isn't Cliff Robertson in jail?

The average age of KRLD's audience is, well, AARP members at a minimum, to Social Security receivers, to at the high end, people hoping to get mentioned by Williard Scott (or whoever his replacement is) before they die....

Don't know what they're planning, but I'd bet this is about getting rid of a show that appeals to an older audience, nothing more, nothing less.

KRLD bills well right now because they run like 48 minutes of spots an hour. (kidding of course, but not by much...)

But they've got to do something to get younger if they want to be around in 5-10 years.

Sad news. First Garrett on BAP, now Sperry....well crap, guess we'll all have weeds out the ying yang...

I know they get a lot of gruff, but I personally enjoy listening to Ernie and Jay. They hit the LOCALtopics,
instead of continual liberal bashing, much like the "other" shows out there. They provide a fine balance, IMO, in a
sea of conservative poop.

Unfortunately, though, I believe that is the only thing they have going good for them...and the fact they totally
trounce over WBAP in the afternoons as far as local hard hitting news,... because god forbid 'BAP wouldn't want to
disturb the lineup of the annointed Great American Hannity or the muppet on crack Levin to serve the listeners with
what is happening LOCALLY IN DFW.

They may not have the ratings as 820....but that doesn't matter to me....they are as close to a WBBM as
their programming will allow them to be during the weekdays....

No, Little 1, I imagine it's a complicated transaction that has the cost of air time offset by Neil's services to the Texas State network...and that TSN is no longer willing to pay the price. Just a guess.
Or maybe Ed Wallace wants to move up to a station with more listeners and is out-bidding Sperry for the radio time. ::)

Maybe Ed Wallace will move to a station with a decent online feed. Please let it be so. With his daily Fox 4 tv segment and KLIF being a Fox station, I don't know how that would play out.

KLIF's online feed is ridiculous. Some commercials are almost inaudible. Or they start a commercial then abruptly cut to another one about 5 seconds later. They miss the news or entire segments of shows while running commercials (same 3 or 4 repeatedly) for a solid 15 minutes at a time.

Someone is napping at the board, or they just don't care.

Maybe Neil is ready to retire. He sold his spring garden show to another concern several years ago and no doubt is compensated nicely for the use of his name. His magazine is outstanding (yes, I like to get dirt under my finger nails) and while I'm certain he's not that hands on with it, again, it has his name on the cover. This could be an opportunity for him to move into digital media, podcasting etc.

He needs maybe 2 hours a week somewhere to maintain his fan base. 660 and 770 and 1190 would probably welcome his dollars. All he needs is a Comrex Access, sportscaster headset, and an alert board-op/screener to do his show (he gets easily flustered if things aren't consistent and 'just so').

Yeah it sounds like a bonehead move on the surface but with a 30 year run on 1080, perhaps it's time for a change. The are lots of new opportunities for him to super-serve his audience. That wasn't the case when he started on News-Talk 57 and later 1080.

Dumb dumb KRLD!!!! What are you thinking???? You fired Brad after 30 years and now Neil the garden man after 30 year since 1980 on KRLD. What are you go to put on Saturday-Sunday morning 8AM-11AM now? You will put on a NO-listener show. I bet Neil's show was the highest listened to show on the weekends. I bet Neil will go to WBAP 820 if he wants to keep on the radio. I like to know if Nei lost his TSN network time too. Thank you dumb aa sss KRLD 1080AM!!! You will be at 0 rating in a few books now.

KRLD cancels Neil Sperry

Just reading in the FTW Startlegram that after 30 years KRLD gave Neil Speery his 6 month notice.

Re: KRLD cancels Neil Sperry

.......just more of CBS radio looking only at bottom line. That's important, but to dilute the product too much just guarantees a dead end. Look what happened in just one month when Brad and Mark were cut. WBAP picks up Brad and their numbers rise.....KRLD....oh well.
